The 55-metre Amels yacht Amigos has arrived at Royal Balk Shipyard for winter works including technical, interior and exterior upgrades ahead of survey.

Amigos returns to the Netherlands for winter works

Royal Balk Shipyard has welcomed the 55-metre Amels motor yacht Amigos for a major refit programme in the Netherlands. Delivered in 2017, the Amels Limited Editions 180 yacht is expected to remain at the yard through the winter after completing a Mediterranean season.

The planned programme combines technical work with interior and exterior upgrades ahead of the yacht’s 10-year survey. The owner’s team at RY Monaco is overseeing the project, with the scope also including interior changes intended to adapt the yacht more closely to the current owner’s requirements.

Survey timing creates a natural refit window

Major class and statutory survey milestones often provide owners with an opportunity to combine mandatory inspection work with upgrades that would otherwise require separate yard periods. Bringing technical, cosmetic and interior tasks together can reduce repeated downtime while allowing systems opened for survey to be assessed for renewal or improvement at the same time.

Amigos was delivered by Amels as part of the Dutch builder’s Limited Editions 180 series, a platform that has established a substantial fleet over the past decade. Returning a Dutch-built yacht to a specialist Netherlands refit yard also places the project close to a dense supplier base familiar with the equipment, engineering standards and construction practices used by the country’s large-yacht sector.

Refit demand remains important for established fleets

Royal Balk has positioned pedigree Dutch yachts as a core part of its refit market, with the yard describing Amigos as representative of the type of project it is set up to handle. The work reflects a wider pattern in which owners are investing in proven yachts through technical renewal and tailored interior changes rather than relying only on new construction.

Completion of the winter programme should prepare Amigos for her next operating cycle with survey work and owner-driven upgrades addressed together. Further detail on the final scope and completion timing is expected as the project progresses through the yard period.
