Baudouin Expands Yacht Engine Range With 4M11 and 16M23

Baudouin has expanded its yacht-engine offering at Cannes with the compact 100kW 4M11 and a new 16M23 platform aimed at larger yacht applications.

Baudouin has expanded its yacht-focused engine offering at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2026, presenting the compact 4M11 and the new 16M23 platform for larger vessels. The French engine maker is positioning the range around the combination of power, installation flexibility and onboard comfort demanded by modern yacht builders.

The 4M11 is rated at 100kW and Baudouin quotes a noise level of 76dBA, while the 16M23 extends the company's yacht portfolio into higher-power applications. Both products were highlighted at the company's Jetée 188 stand in Cannes during the 8–13 September show.

4M11 targets compact and quieter installations

Baudouin says the 4M11 was developed around three priorities for yacht applications: 100kW output, compact dimensions and lower noise. Those characteristics are important in machinery spaces where every centimetre can affect accommodation, storage or technical access, while acoustic performance directly influences comfort elsewhere on board.

The manufacturer pairs the 4M11 with the smaller 4M05, giving designers another step in the range for lower-power duties. That makes the family relevant not only to propulsion decisions but also to auxiliary and generator-room planning where multiple power levels may be required across a yacht's technical package.

16M23 extends the range toward larger yachts

The 16M23 is the more significant development for the superyacht market because Baudouin describes it as a new platform extending its yachting offer toward larger vessels. It sits above existing solutions such as the 6F21 and 8F21 and is intended to address higher power requirements as yacht size and onboard electrical demand increase.

Baudouin has not framed the Cannes presentation simply as a horsepower exercise, instead emphasising integration and lifecycle suitability for sophisticated vessels. On a superyacht, engine choice also affects access for maintenance, cooling requirements, exhaust routing, vibration control and the amount of usable volume available outside the machinery space.

Noise becomes part of the engine specification

The quoted 76dBA figure for the 4M11 highlights how engine manufacturers are increasingly selling acoustic performance alongside output and efficiency. A lower machinery-space noise signature can reduce the burden on insulation and vibration-control measures, although final sound levels throughout a yacht will depend on the complete installation rather than the engine alone.

This is particularly relevant for yachts spending long periods at anchor, where auxiliary machinery may be running while guests expect near-residential levels of quiet. Builders therefore evaluate engines as components of a wider acoustic system that includes mounts, exhaust silencers, ventilation, generators and structural transmission paths.

Baudouin strengthens its position in yachting

The Cannes launch gives Baudouin a broader spread of products for builders working across different yacht sizes rather than a single flagship engine. The 4M11 addresses compact installations and comfort, while the 16M23 provides a route into applications where substantially more power is required.

For owners and shipyards, the practical comparison will still involve service support, fuel efficiency, installation weight, emissions compliance and access to parts in intended cruising regions. Even so, the 2026 range expansion adds another established marine-engine supplier to the competitive set for new yacht projects and future repower decisions.
