Northrop & Johnson offers the 1969 Feadship SULTANA for €4.5m following extensive modernisation, with classic canoe-stern styling and rebuilt Gardner propulsion.

A classic Feadship returns to the brokerage spotlight

The 25.8-metre motor yacht SULTANA is being offered for sale through Northrop & Johnson with a published asking price of €4.5 million. Built at the De Vries yard in Aalsmeer and delivered in 1969, the canoe-stern yacht is a surviving example of the Dutch builder's cooperation with Italian yacht entrepreneur Carlo Riva.

Originally named DIN DINA, the yacht belonged to the Caravelle Series and retains the graceful proportions of an earlier era of motor-yacht design. Her present listing is notable because major technical refits have been undertaken while much of the vessel's original exterior character has been retained.

The advertised figure is an asking price, not a completed sale or independently confirmed valuation. Prospective buyers should confirm the current availability and terms with the central agent, since brokerage listings and prices may change.

Rebuilding old machinery for present-day cruising

SULTANA underwent a substantial rebuild at Feadship's Makkum facilities in 2012, including work on her Gardner main engines, onboard systems and interior accommodation. Rather than replace every aspect of the vessel's mechanical identity, the project sought to preserve her history while modernising the installations needed for regular use.

After a change of ownership in 2021, further refit work took place at Monaco Marine in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. The brokerage describes renewed generators, changes to the lithium-battery installation, additional engine work, new sundeck teak and repainting, alongside a broad reworking of the guest and service spaces.

The current sales material quotes consumption of approximately 33 litres per hour and a cruising range of roughly 2,500 nautical miles. Those are broker-published figures rather than results from an independently witnessed sea trial, so practical performance should be confirmed against load, sea state and intended operating speed.

A distinctive balance of original and new features

Below deck, the yacht is arranged for six guests in three cabins and up to four crew across two cabins. The principal suite is forward, while other guest accommodation and a dedicated laundry have been incorporated into the revised layout to meet contemporary expectations.

One unusual feature of the saloon is a glass floor panel showing the restored Gardner engines below. The arrangement makes the yacht's mechanical heritage visible as part of the interior experience without turning the machinery space itself into a public guest area.

The broker also describes a battery system capable of up to 12 hours of quiet operation at anchor, supported by electrical generation while the yacht is underway. That claim depends on actual hotel loads and battery condition, making a detailed technical review important for any purchaser.

What a prospective owner would need to examine

A classic yacht built in 1969 can offer distinctive workmanship and historic interest, but its future ownership costs depend on the quality and documentation of subsequent work. Detailed inspection of the steel hull, electrical installation, machinery, coatings and accessible maintenance records is essential even when recent refits are extensive.

Owners also need to consider berth availability, replacement parts, survey requirements and whether a familiar classic profile suits their intended cruising programme. A highly personalised yacht may have advantages that are difficult to reproduce in new construction, yet those advantages should never substitute for technical due diligence.

SULTANA is presently being marketed as an existing refitted Feadship, not as a newly delivered model or proof of a recently completed sale. The accompanying photograph is sourced from the official brokerage listing and depicts the actual yacht being offered.
