Lusben has relaunched the 40-metre Perini Navi sailing yacht Olympia in Viareggio after a wide-ranging technical, machinery and deck refit.

Olympia returns to the water in Viareggio

Lusben has relaunched the 40-metre Perini Navi sailing yacht Olympia at its Viareggio facility following a comprehensive refit programme. Built in 2013 and previously known as State of Grace, the yacht returned to the water on 5 October after work extending across machinery, propulsion, onboard systems, deck equipment and finishes.

The project was coordinated by Lusben with specialist suppliers and the owner’s representative, Seamotion founder Susanna Corsagni. Lusben says the scope expanded as work progressed, requiring the yard to combine its knowledge of Perini Navi construction with a flexible programme for additional technical interventions.

Machinery and sailing systems receive major work

A central element of the refit was the machinery package, including removal and complete overhaul of the Caterpillar main engine and replacement of its engine block. New generators were installed, the Selmar system was changed and the exhaust arrangement was redesigned, while major engine-room components were dismantled for overhaul or replacement.

The yacht’s movable keel system also underwent extensive work, with the centreboard piston serviced and its rod replaced. Lusben additionally addressed the sails, deck equipment and sail-handling systems, installed new navigation electronics and fitted a new external helm console as part of the wider renewal programme.

Refit preserves a Perini Navi sailing platform

Cosmetic work included repainting the hull, superstructure and underwater body together with the mast and boom. The combination of structural knowledge and systems renewal is particularly relevant on a 13-year-old large sailing yacht, where refit planning has to integrate machinery, rig, hotel systems and original construction details rather than treating each package in isolation.

With Olympia afloat, the next stages include re-stepping the carbon mast followed by final tuning and testing before the yacht returns to service. The project adds another Perini Navi sailing yacht to Lusben’s refit portfolio and highlights the continuing demand for substantial technical investment in established pedigree yachts.
