Metstrade has called on the global leisure marine community to take practical action for cleaner seas and waterways around World Boating Day. The campaign followed an Amsterdam canal clean-up with Plastic Whale.

Metstrade called on companies and professionals across the leisure-marine industry to take practical action for cleaner seas and waterways around World Boating Day. The campaign followed a canal clean-up in Amsterdam involving 11 members of the Metstrade team working with Plastic Whale.

A call across the marine supply chain

The initiative was aimed at Metstrade's network of more than 20,000 visitors and 1,700 exhibitors, extending from marinas and shipyards to equipment manufacturers, training organisations and yacht crews. Suggested actions included removing waste from harbours, collecting floating plastics, improving onboard waste separation and avoiding damage to seagrass areas.

World Boating Day is a global non-profit initiative created to bring the marine industry and wider public closer together through open days, workshops, tours and on-water activities. The 2026 environmental campaign added a direct clean-water component to that wider industry programme.

Superyacht-sector involvement

The initiative is associated with the Superyacht Life Foundation, connecting the campaign directly with the superyacht community as well as the broader recreational marine market. Metstrade said collective participation could demonstrate that environmental responsibility is relevant to everyday operations across the industry's supply chain.

Metstrade also invited participants to document their activity using the World Boating Day and Metstrade Clean Waters campaigns. The original release was published ahead of activities planned for the week of 18–24 May 2026.
