Nautor Swan has revealed the 44-metre Swan Alloy 44, beginning a new aluminium superyacht line and marking Sanlorenzo's entry into large sailing yachts.

Nautor Swan has presented the Swan Alloy 44, a 44-metre aluminium sailing superyacht that will become the largest yacht in the Finnish builder's sixty-year history. The project also marks the first major new Swan product since Sanlorenzo acquired the company in 2024.

The project starts a new Swan Alloy family

The 44-metre yacht is the first model in a planned Alloy line expected to expand toward a 50-metre version and a future ketch. The programme combines Swan's sailing heritage with Sanlorenzo's larger-yacht engineering and production experience.

That strategy gives the group a route into aluminium sailing superyachts without creating an entirely separate brand. Swan retains its identity and customer base while gaining access to industrial knowledge developed across Sanlorenzo's motor-yacht and superyacht divisions.

Construction is split between the Netherlands and Italy

Gouwerok Shipyard in the Netherlands is building the aluminium hull and deck before the yacht transfers to Viareggio for outfitting, commissioning and delivery. The cross-border build model uses Dutch aluminium expertise alongside Italian finishing and yacht-construction infrastructure.

Managing that handover will be important because the owner's experience depends on continuity between structural work, systems integration and interior completion. The first hull will establish processes that could be repeated on later Alloy models.

Malcolm McKeon and Liaigre shape the new flagship

Naval architecture and exterior design are by Malcolm McKeon, with Studio Liaigre responsible for the interior. The design brief aims to make the yacht look fast even when stationary while preserving the restraint and proportions associated with Swan.

The interior uses natural light, broad glazing and controlled materials to keep the experience connected with the sea. At this scale the designers have more volume to work with, but the challenge is avoiding the visual heaviness that can affect very large sailing yachts.

Regeneration under sail reduces generator dependence

The Alloy 44 will use a dual-energy system capable of generating electricity through the propeller while sailing and storing it in onboard batteries. Swan says the approach draws on both Sanlorenzo hybrid experience and earlier regenerative projects within its own range.

The first delivery is expected in summer 2028. Its performance, weight balance and energy results will be important because the yacht is not simply a larger Swan; it is the technical foundation for a new superyacht family.
