Nautor Swan Global Service has appointed Elite Yacht Covers its exclusive canvas partner for owners across Spain and Italy, with service coverage spanning yachts from Swan 48 to Swan 128.
Nautor Swan Global Service has appointed British specialist Elite Yacht Covers as its exclusive partner for marine canvas, creating a defined service route for owners who need new or replacement covers, awnings and sprayhoods. The agreement announced on 16 October 2026 covers work coordinated through the Finnish yacht builder's service organisation in Spain and Italy.
The partnership is a service development rather than a change in the ownership of either business. Its main value for yacht owners is the ability to combine advice about bespoke canvas with inspections and maintenance planning, rather than dealing with each worn cover as an unexpected problem during the sailing season.
Elite Yacht Covers says its experience with the brand spans yachts from the Swan 48 to the Swan 128. That range includes both smaller owner-operated cruisers and sailing yachts well above the 24-metre superyacht threshold, where fabric installations become substantial elements of deck design and guest comfort.
A cover for a 39-metre sailing yacht must work around a very different set of deck fittings, rigging movements and exposed surfaces from a small weekend cruiser. The design therefore needs to address wind loads, attachment points, safe use while sailing and the space required to stow substantial fabric panels when not in use.
The Essex-based company uses digital measurement methods and CAD design to prepare custom canvas for the yacht's particular equipment and deck geometry. Manufacturing takes place at its UK loft, with an additional office at Hamble Point Marina on the English south coast.
Digital patterns can make repeat orders and replacements more predictable, but the quality of a finished cover still depends on material choice and careful fitting. Owners should request clarity on fabric grades, stitching, UV resistance, fasteners and drainage rather than judge a product simply by its appearance in a photograph.
As part of the arrangement, Elite intends to visit Nautor Swan Global Service locations in Badalona, Spain, and Scarlino, Italy, to inspect covers already fitted aboard clients' yachts. The process is designed to identify worn seams, tired stitching and areas of fabric deterioration before these affect the owner's programme.
Findings are to be documented in each vessel's service file so work can be scheduled alongside other maintenance. Such records can also be useful when a yacht changes captain or management company because they preserve knowledge of earlier replacements and recurring areas of wear.
Awnings and biminis provide shade during periods when guests spend time outside, while sprayhoods protect crew and deck openings during less comfortable conditions. Protective covers also help reduce exposure of cushions, instruments and stored equipment to salt, rain and ultraviolet light.
The savings from regular inspection are not guaranteed for every vessel, but a planned replacement can be easier to manage than discovering damage immediately before departure. A yacht manager should also consider how long panels take to fit, whether professional assistance is needed and where the equipment will be kept during a long passage.
Swan yachts frequently move between northern European yards and Mediterranean cruising grounds, so service relationships that cross national borders can simplify planning. An owner might arrange a design consultation in the United Kingdom while having the finished work checked or installed during a scheduled stop in Spain or Italy.
That convenience still requires a clear written scope of responsibility. Orders should identify who performs measurements, who fits the product, how alterations are managed and which warranty terms apply, especially when different organisations handle consecutive parts of the process.
David Miralta of Nautor Swan Global Service said the partnership is intended to give owners advice on new canvas as well as replacement and maintenance work. Paul Gray, sales director at Elite Yacht Covers, emphasised the benefit of detecting wear early and arranging repairs before owners are ready to use their boats.
The comments reflect the partner companies' stated service objectives, not independently measured savings. A successful implementation will depend on consistent workmanship, accurate records and communication with captains whose vessels may be operating far from the company's manufacturing site.
This October agreement illustrates how large sailing yacht aftercare increasingly involves specialist suppliers working within a builder's established service network. Sail handling equipment, running rigging, deck coverings and shading systems all influence the daily experience aboard, although they attract less attention than the yacht's principal dimensions or interior styling.
For Swan owners considering a refit or replacement cover, the immediate next step is to request a survey and a detailed specification rather than assume every installation can be completed at a fixed price. The confirmed development is the new exclusive partnership and planned service inspections through Nautor Swan Global Service.
