Swan Alloy 44 Leads Nautor Swan Into Large Aluminium Sailing Yachts

A new aluminium chapter for Swan

Nautor Swan has used the eve of Monaco Yacht Show 2026 to present the Swan Alloy 44 as the first member of a new line of large aluminium sailing yachts. The 43.5-metre project is the largest Swan yet and follows the start of construction announced earlier this year.

The yard says the Alloy programme will extend beyond the 44 with a 50-metre edition and a future ketch model. That makes the September presentation a broader product-line announcement rather than simply a repeat of the construction milestone reported in March.

Dutch construction and Italian outfitting

The aluminium hull and deck are being built by Gouwerok in the Netherlands before the yacht transfers to Viareggio for final outfitting and commissioning. Nautor Swan remains responsible for the overall programme, combining Dutch aluminium fabrication with its Finnish sailing heritage and Sanlorenzo Group resources.

Malcolm McKeon is responsible for naval architecture and exterior design, while Studio Liaigre is developing the interiors. The first yacht is scheduled for launch in 2028, so published dimensions and performance targets should still be treated as project specifications rather than delivered-yacht measurements.

Performance and long-range cruising

The project uses a telescopic keel and is being developed as a performance-led cruising yacht rather than a conventional displacement motor yacht translated into sail. Nautor Swan has also described a dual-energy approach intended to support onboard energy generation and storage while sailing.

The concept aims to balance sailing performance with the volume and comfort expected in the modern superyacht market. Final machinery, energy-storage capacity and real-world endurance will need to be assessed against the completed build and approved technical documentation.

A larger Swan Alloy family

The announcement positions Alloy as a long-term extension of the Swan range rather than a single flagship experiment. A larger 50-metre version and a future ketch are planned, giving the group a path into a segment traditionally occupied by specialist large-sailing-yacht builders.

For owners, the important distinction is that the 44 is already in construction while the later Alloy models remain future programme proposals. Their schedules, specifications and client status should therefore be confirmed individually as Nautor Swan releases further information.
