Northrop & Johnson has listed the 24.99m Swan 82 UNDERLORD for $2.395m. The 2002 Nautor Swan sailing yacht combines Germán Frers design, a carbon rig, composite construction and a 2022 refit.
Northrop & Johnson has brought the 24.99-metre Nautor Swan sailing yacht UNDERLORD to the sales market at an asking price of $2.395 million. Built in Finland in 2002 to a Germán Frers design, the Swan 82 combines a carbon sailing package, advanced composite construction and accommodation for six guests in three cabins.
The yacht sits only just above Superyacht Guide's 24-metre threshold, but her specification is that of a professionally operated large sailing yacht rather than a conventional production cruiser. Northrop & Johnson describes a long history of global sailing supported by professional crewing and maintenance, while its live listing records the yacht as a 2002 build with a 2022 refit.
UNDERLORD was designed by Germán Frers and built by Nautor Swan, one of the established names in performance-oriented large sailing yachts. Her rig uses an Offshore Spars carbon-fibre mast and boom, with the sail plan and deck arrangement configured for controlled management rather than requiring a race-boat operating style.
The construction specification is equally notable. Northrop & Johnson states that the hull uses glass and aramid hybrid fibre-reinforced vinylester laminate with carbon-fibre reinforcement, while structural bulkheads use Nomex honeycomb-cored carbon-fibre epoxy pre-preg construction.
The main deck is described as a carbon-fibre pre-preg sandwich structure with a Nomex honeycomb core. Below the waterline, a steel keel fin is paired with an L-shaped lead bulb, reflecting the weight control and stability priorities that distinguish a performance sailing yacht from a displacement motor yacht of comparable overall length.
A key part of UNDERLORD's interior arrangement is the separation between guest and working areas. Three guest staterooms are positioned forward for a total of six guests, while the crew cabins, navigation station and galley are located aft.
The full-beam master cabin occupies the forward part of the accommodation, supported by two additional en-suite guest cabins. One of those cabins incorporates a fold-down Pullman berth, adding flexibility without changing the basic three-cabin layout around which the yacht is designed.
Midships, the full-beam saloon provides port and starboard settees and dining for six. The layout therefore gives the guest spaces a clear progression from the principal cabins forward into a central social area, while the operational spaces remain grouped separately toward the stern.
Northrop & Johnson says UNDERLORD has benefited from continuing upgrades and updates during her ownership. The brokerage specifically highlights replacement of the teak decking and an upgraded carbon deck package, while the live listing records a 2022 refit against the yacht's original 2002 build year.
That maintenance history is particularly important for a carbon-intensive sailing yacht because condition cannot be judged from build year or cosmetic presentation alone. Rigging, deck systems, composite structures, sails, machinery and technical installations all form part of the acquisition picture, and an independent survey remains essential before purchase.
The advantage of a yacht with established professional operation is that buyers can examine a substantial maintenance and sailing history rather than evaluating an untested platform. The limitation is that any yacht approaching a quarter-century in age requires careful review of past work, present condition and future replacement cycles, regardless of brand reputation.
UNDERLORD's value proposition is fundamentally different from the motor yachts that dominate the 25-metre brokerage market. Her carbon rig, composite structure and deep sailing pedigree are central to the ownership experience, while accommodation and hotel services are designed around the requirements of a yacht that is intended to make passages under sail.
That difference affects the way buyers should compare the asking price. A sailing yacht of this type cannot be assessed simply by dividing price by length or comparing cabin count, because rig specification, structural engineering, sail inventory and the condition of highly loaded deck equipment can represent significant parts of both capability and future ownership cost.
The three-guest-cabin arrangement also keeps the yacht focused rather than maximizing sleeping capacity. Six guests can be accommodated while crew and operational areas remain separated aft, a layout that supports extended cruising without turning every available interior area into additional berths.
Northrop & Johnson's current asking price is $2.395 million, and the live listing confirms an overall length of 82 feet 9 inches, or 24.99 metres. That measurement places UNDERLORD within Superyacht Guide's coverage while also illustrating how close some large sailing yachts sit to the boundary between the luxury-yacht and superyacht markets.
The price puts the yacht into a market where buyers can choose between newer production sailing yachts, older custom or semi-custom performance yachts and motor yachts offering greater interior volume. UNDERLORD's case rests less on maximum accommodation and more on the combination of Nautor Swan build quality, Germán Frers design and a sophisticated carbon sailing package.
Her age means that the recent and historical maintenance record should be examined closely, including the teak replacement and carbon deck work identified by the brokerage. Those projects can materially affect condition, but they do not replace a buyer's own investigation into rig, structure, machinery, systems and documentation.
For an owner seeking a large sailing yacht with genuine offshore capability, the design and construction details are likely to carry more weight than purely cosmetic comparisons. The carbon mast and boom, hybrid hull laminate, carbon structural elements and professionally maintained operating history create a technical proposition that is difficult to compare directly with a conventional cruising yacht.
UNDERLORD is now offered through Northrop & Johnson with Bill Titus identified as the listing broker. With the asking price publicly set and the yacht's principal construction and accommodation details disclosed, the new listing gives the market a clear opportunity to value a mature Swan 82 against the newer and older performance sailing yachts currently available.
The 24.99-metre length also keeps UNDERLORD within a size range that can access many cruising grounds and marina facilities that become more restrictive for substantially larger sailing yachts. That practical scale, combined with six-guest accommodation and a dedicated crew arrangement, may appeal to an owner who wants serious offshore capability without moving into the staffing and infrastructure demands of a much larger vessel.
