Sanlorenzo and Vogue Business used Monaco Yacht Show 2026 to examine how wellbeing, privacy and personal experience are changing the definition of luxury at sea.

Sanlorenzo has published the conclusions of a Monaco Yacht Show discussion held with Vogue Business aboard the 74Steel SILVER FOX. The conversation focused on a shift in luxury ownership away from conspicuous consumption and toward time, privacy, wellbeing and experiences designed around the individual owner.

Time is becoming a central measure of luxury

Sanlorenzo says the discussion brought together perspectives from luxury, design and yachting to examine how owners increasingly value the quality of time spent aboard. Rather than treating a yacht simply as a collection of amenities, the conversation framed it as a private environment designed around how an owner wants to live, rest, work and connect with family or guests.

That change has practical consequences for yacht design. Spaces intended for wellness, privacy and flexible use become more important when the objective is to make time on board feel more personal and less programmed, particularly for owners who use their yachts for extended periods rather than short ceremonial visits.

Wellbeing and intimacy are influencing layouts

The Sanlorenzo and Vogue Business discussion highlighted wellbeing and intimacy as increasingly important parts of the ownership brief. Designers are responding with quieter private zones, stronger links to the sea, adaptable spaces and layouts that can support both social activity and retreat without forcing every part of the yacht into a single mode.

For large-yacht builders, this requires closer collaboration with owners earlier in the design process. The value increasingly lies in shaping the yacht around routines and preferences rather than adding features after the fundamental architecture has already been fixed.

SILVER FOX was used as the working example

The Monaco discussion took place aboard the Sanlorenzo 74Steel yacht SILVER FOX. Sanlorenzo used the yacht as a practical example of purposeful innovation and co-creation at a larger scale. Its arrangement shows how architecture can be shaped around the way a particular owner intends to live at sea.

Sanlorenzo describes the project as part of a broader move toward more individual superyachts, where the design process begins with lifestyle priorities and translates them into circulation, private areas, wellness spaces and the relationship between interior and exterior living. The approach places the owner’s daily experience at the centre of the design brief.

Owner expectations are broadening beyond traditional luxury

The discussion also reflects a wider shift visible across the 2026 superyacht market. Buyers continue to expect craftsmanship, technology and performance, but those qualities increasingly sit alongside personal relevance: whether a yacht supports family time, remote work, wellness, exploration or simply greater privacy.

For Superyacht Guide readers, the significance is that the competitive benchmark is moving. Shipyards are no longer judged only by size, finish and specification; the ability to translate an owner’s priorities into a coherent onboard experience is becoming an equally important measure of success.
