VPLP and Micheletti Reveal 76m Sailing Catamaran Tyrena

VPLP Design and Micheletti + Partners have used Monaco Yacht Show week to put a different question to the large-yacht market: what happens when the architecture of Mediterranean living is allowed to shape the yacht from the outset? Their answer is Tyrena, a 76-metre sailing catamaran concept whose wide multihull platform is organised around wind propulsion, open-air circulation and a close connection with the sea.

Mediterranean architecture moves aboard

VPLP describes the project through the language of patios, atriums, loggias and belvederes rather than conventional yacht-deck terminology. That approach gives Tyrena a distinctly architectural character, with interior and exterior areas intended to flow into one another instead of being separated into a sequence of enclosed rooms and exposed terraces.

The concept uses the catamaran's beam to create sheltered outdoor spaces while preserving long sightlines and natural airflow. Passive ventilation is part of that thinking, allowing the design team to treat climate and comfort as elements of the architecture rather than relying solely on mechanical systems to make large glazed spaces usable.

Wind is part of the operating concept

Tyrena is not presented as a motor yacht with sailing equipment added for visual effect, because VPLP places wind propulsion at the centre of the project's identity. The multihull form and sailing architecture are intended to work together, reflecting VPLP's long experience in high-performance multihulls while translating those principles into a 76-metre private-yacht environment.

An aft platform that changes the relationship with the sea

One of the concept's defining features is a mobile aft platform designed to create continuity between the two hulls and the water when the yacht is at rest. It turns the stern from a fixed boundary into an adaptable waterside area, reinforcing the broader idea that the yacht should open itself to its surroundings rather than simply provide views of them through glass.

For the Monaco Yacht Show 2026, Tyrena gives the two studios a substantial conversation piece at a time when owners and designers are examining how much genuine operational change can sit behind a more sustainable aesthetic. The project remains a design vision rather than an announced construction contract, so Superyacht Guide is treating its environmental and performance ambitions as concept goals rather than delivered-yacht results.
