SES Yachts is highlighting the delivered 42m MERINOS at Monaco, where its 940kWh battery bank and solar-assisted hybrid architecture provide the technical focus.
SES Yachts is using Monaco Yacht Show 2026 to highlight the recently delivered 42-metre MERINOS, the first GX42 from GX Superyachts and one of the more technically interesting hybrid projects completed by the Turkish yard. The yacht combines a large lithium battery bank, integrated solar generation and serial-hybrid propulsion.
According to SES Yachts, MERINOS carries a 940kWh lithium battery bank and can provide up to 48 hours of silent, zero-emission hotel-load operation while at anchor. That capability shifts the hybrid discussion beyond propulsion alone and towards reducing generator use during the periods when owners and guests are most likely to value silence.
The GX42's electrical architecture integrates its battery storage with solar panels and the yacht's hybrid propulsion system. SES describes the installation as including two electric propulsion motors alongside the 940kWh battery bank, although the yard's release expresses the motor figure in energy rather than power units, so Superyacht Guide is not treating that figure as a confirmed motor-output specification.
The more significant confirmed figure is the battery capacity. At 940kWh, the stored-energy package is intended to support hotel loads for as long as two days at anchor without local exhaust emissions from continuously running generators, subject to actual onboard demand and operating conditions.
MERINOS was built at SES Yachts in Istanbul for GX Superyachts. Its completion turns the GX42's solar-and-hybrid proposition into an operating 42-metre yacht rather than a concept, allowing the industry to examine how the systems have been integrated at superyacht scale.
The project is particularly relevant because hotel demand can account for substantial generator running time aboard large yachts. Battery-supported silent periods can reduce noise and vibration at anchor as well as local emissions, even where diesel machinery remains part of the yacht's overall energy system.
Alongside MERINOS, SES will present the developing EPOQ 36 project at its Monaco stand. The 36-metre yacht is designed by Sturge & Toth, developed with Ocean Independence and uses a high-efficiency hull by Van Oossanen Naval Architects.
SES says EPOQ reinterprets the traditional gentleman's yacht around modern efficiency and long-range comfort. Together with the completed MERINOS, it gives the yard a Monaco programme spanning both an operating hybrid superyacht and a new efficiency-led custom-yacht platform.
