Feadship has completed a major 14-month rebuild of the 46.9-metre Halcyon, originally launched as Northern Light in 2001.
Twenty-five years after launching as Northern Light, the 46.90-metre Halcyon has emerged from one of Feadship Refit & Services’ most extensive recent rebuild programmes. The yacht arrived at Kaag in May 2025 for what was initially expected to be a substantial but more limited refit.
As work progressed, the scope expanded across structural, technical, mechanical and cosmetic systems. Feadship said the objective became bringing the 2001 yacht up to contemporary expectations while preserving the identity and craftsmanship of the original build.
The bridge was modernised with new equipment, while electrical, alarm, monitoring and power-management systems were upgraded throughout the yacht. Climate-control infrastructure was replaced, and guest and crew areas were refreshed with renewed finishes and restored materials.
Technical spaces saw some of the most extensive work. Main engines and gearboxes were overhauled, two new generators installed, and systems for water production, sewage treatment, heating, ventilation, freshwater distribution, fuel management and tankage were renewed.
Halcyon now carries a redesigned stern with a new staircase linking the main deck to the swim platform, along with new exterior finishes, adapted mast details and fresh teak across much of the exterior. Steering gear, shafts, rudders and underwater coatings also formed part of the programme.
Captain Joe Gallegos described the work as evolving into something much closer to a modified new build. Final commissioning is scheduled ahead of redelivery, giving the classic Feadship a substantially extended operational life after one of the most comprehensive rebuilds in her history.
