The 2026 ACREW Crew Awards are scheduled in Fort Lauderdale on 25 October, recognising superyacht captains and crew across 14 professional categories.

Crew recognition moves to South Florida

The ACREW Crew Awards are scheduled to take place in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday 25 October 2026, bringing an annual celebration of yacht-captain and crew expertise to South Florida ahead of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The organisers have outlined a programme of 14 award categories intended to highlight achievements across the diverse professional roles found aboard superyachts.

This year's evening has a Roaring Twenties theme, with an emphasis on Art Deco style and the atmosphere of a historic speakeasy. The setting is intended to celebrate the human side of an industry often represented in public by yacht length, designer names and commercial transactions.

The awards have not yet taken place, and no winner for 2026 can be reported. Nominees are being assessed by judges with experience in superyacht operations, who will consider how individuals and teams have demonstrated professionalism, leadership and dependable work through the previous season.

The work behind a successful yacht programme

Running a superyacht requires the cooperation of people with different disciplines. Deck officers handle navigation, passage planning and safety; engineers maintain propulsion and domestic systems; and interior personnel coordinate housekeeping, guest service and other functions that can require exacting preparation.

The quality of the vessel alone cannot compensate for inadequate training or communication. Owners may invest in advanced stabilisers and luxurious accommodation, but safe and comfortable operation depends on crew members noticing problems early, handing over responsibilities clearly and knowing when to seek help.

Recognition across multiple categories helps illustrate this range of work. It can also offer encouragement to people developing a long-term career within yachting, provided nominations and judging are conducted in a manner that recognises competence rather than popularity alone.

Industry backing includes Damen Yachting

Damen Yachting has confirmed that its Amels brand will act as a gold sponsor of the 2026 awards. The company says four Amels nominees are among this year's finalists, pointing to its continued involvement with crew and owners after a yacht leaves the yard.

The builder describes crew capability as an important part of the ownership experience. A well-supported vessel needs safe working arrangements, clear maintenance information and reliable relationships with its builder, manager and specialist suppliers during both planned servicing and unexpected repairs.

United Island & Yacht is also supporting the awards and has highlighted the Best Superyacht Crew category, which is intended to recognise collective performance. Its announcement identified the teams aboard FREEDOM and OCEAN CLUB among early nominees, without suggesting that either yacht has already received the 2026 trophy.

Other supporters and nominees may be confirmed or updated by the organiser as the event approaches. Readers should consult ACREW's current official information for the final list rather than assume an early nomination notice contains every candidate.

An opportunity to recognise life aboard

Most superyacht crewing takes place far from public attention. Guest movements, shore formalities, tender operations, safety drills and equipment maintenance often continue while a yacht is travelling between different ports or making brief stops to collect visitors.

Structured acknowledgement of these responsibilities can support recruitment and professional development when it is connected to demonstrable skills. Awards cannot replace licensing, flag-state rules or practical assessments of competence, but they can make the value of long-term crew commitment more visible.

The ceremony is scheduled immediately before the 28 October opening of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, when many owners, captains and suppliers will already be travelling to South Florida. The date creates an opportunity for professional recognition alongside the yacht market's commercial activity.
