AIRMAR’s TriSonic Smart Multisensor combines ultrasonic speed, depth, temperature and vessel attitude data without a moving paddlewheel.
AIRMAR has introduced the TriSonic Smart Multisensor, using ultrasonic technology to measure speed through the water without a paddlewheel. The design removes a moving component that can foul, wear or require cleaning, while retaining depth, water temperature, heel and trim data in the same sensor.
The unit connects directly to NMEA 2000 networks and uses adaptive digital processing to account for changes in boat speed, depth and water clarity. AIRMAR positions the system as a lower-maintenance option for both power and sailing yachts that need reliable speed data over long operating periods.
TriSonic works with AIRMAR’s CAST mobile app over Bluetooth, allowing crew or technicians to calibrate speed and apply offsets from a smartphone. The app can display live sensor data numerically or graphically and supports more advanced calibration across different heel angles and operating speeds.
That approach reduces the need for separate PC-based service software during routine setup and troubleshooting. For yachts with distributed navigation systems, the calibrated information is then available across compatible instruments and multifunction displays on the NMEA 2000 network.
AIRMAR has designed TriSonic to retrofit into many existing two-inch thru-hull housings, helping yards upgrade older paddlewheel or earlier ultrasonic installations without redesigning the hull fitting. The sensor integrates its processing electronics within the body, so an external junction box is not required.
For multihulls, AIRMAR also offers a dual-sensor TriSonic 2 configuration that can select the unit sitting in cleaner water as the boat heels or changes attitude. The system is available through AIRMAR dealers and adds another electronics option for owners prioritising lower maintenance and cleaner sensor integration.
