AIRMAR’s DST820 Smart Multisensor adds PSTI-compliant security while retaining depth, speed, temperature, heel and trim measurement.
AIRMAR’s DST820 Smart Multisensor introduces compliance with the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure requirements to a connected NMEA 2000 sensor. It continues to measure depth, speed through the water, water temperature, heel and trim while adding a stronger setup and security process.
The sensor uses QR-code pairing and a one-time password during configuration, reducing the reliance on generic credentials for wireless access. AIRMAR says the change is intended to strengthen connected-device security as more onboard sensors gain software, wireless configuration and update functions.
Through AIRMAR’s CAST app, users can enable or disable sensor outputs, change update rates and perform firmware updates from a mobile device. Fault logging is also available through the app, giving service teams another route to diagnose installation or operating issues without removing the sensor.
The same interface is used for configuration and vulnerability reporting, bringing routine maintenance and security management into one workflow. For yacht electronics specialists, this reflects the growing overlap between traditional marine instrumentation and onboard network-security requirements.
The DST820 reduces its NMEA 2000 Load Equivalency Number to two, down from three on earlier versions, lowering its network power requirement. It remains compatible with existing two-inch thru-hull fittings, so many owners can upgrade without replacing the complete hull installation.
AIRMAR intends the DST820 to replace earlier DST810 offerings as the updated platform becomes standard. The combination of familiar sensor functions, lower electrical load and stronger security gives yards a straightforward path to modernise an existing installation during refit.
