SAMOS Brings ZTAB, Electric Handling and HULL VANE® Technology to Genoa
SAMOS is using Genoa 2026 to present new motion-control, electric-handling and hydrodynamic technologies aimed at larger yachts and superyacht projects.
AkzoNobel has been named exclusive sponsor of the African Boating Conference 2026 technology panel focused on sustainable marine-industry growth.
AkzoNobel will support the Technology Panel at the 2026 African Boating Conference in Cape Town, placing yacht coatings expertise within a wider discussion of sustainable materials, digital marina infrastructure and emerging marine technology. The conference runs on 20–21 October at the V&A Waterfront.
The session is titled Innovation for Growth: Technologies Driving Africa's Sustainable Marine Future and will examine how new materials, digital systems and infrastructure can improve competitiveness. The subject reaches beyond boat construction because modern marine businesses increasingly depend on data, energy management and service networks.
For African yards and marinas, the central question is how technology moves from conference discussion into commercially useful adoption. Equipment has to be supportable locally, affordable across its service life and compatible with the operating conditions found in regional ports and boatyards.
AkzoNobel brings direct yacht-sector relevance through coating brands including International and Awlgrip, which are used across recreational and professional marine markets. Coatings affect more than appearance because corrosion protection, antifouling performance and application quality influence maintenance schedules and vessel availability.
The environmental challenge is to improve protection and service life while responding to changing rules around chemicals and emissions. Shipyards also need systems that can be applied consistently, repaired during refit and supported by trained applicators in the regions where yachts actually operate.
The panel will also consider digital marina infrastructure and sustainable materials, two areas with growing implications for visiting superyachts. Marina digitisation can affect berth management, energy metering and guest services, while material choices influence construction weight, durability and end-of-life considerations.
Technology adoption should be judged against measurable operational gains rather than novelty alone. A digital platform or new material only adds value when it improves safety, efficiency, maintenance, environmental performance or the quality of service delivered to yachts and their crews.
The African Boating Conference is using Cape Town to bring builders, suppliers, investors, policymakers and destination specialists into the same programme. AkzoNobel's sponsorship places an established global marine supplier inside a discussion about how regional industry capability can scale.
Superyacht Guide is recording the sponsorship because technology and supplier networks are part of destination competitiveness as well as yacht construction. The October panel should provide a useful test of which sustainability ideas are ready for commercial deployment and which remain longer-term ambitions.
