Arpeca Prepares 1,960m² Viareggio Refit Facility for Yachts Up to 40m

Arpeca is preparing to open a new Viareggio Darsena refit site covering 1,960m², with operational yard space, tender storage and facilities for visiting crews.
Arpeca Shipyard is preparing a new refit and maintenance facility in Viareggio's Darsena, adding capacity for yachts up to 40 metres. The site, on Via Coppino, covers 1,960 square metres and is intended to expand the Italian operator's existing shipyard and shoreside-service capabilities rather than replace its current yard.
Arpeca expected the new location to become fully operational within roughly a month of its September 23 announcement. The project reflects a continuing need for service yards that can offer not only lifting and repair work, but also space for tenders, equipment, crew and the logistical activity that accompanies a major refit.
The new site allocates 1,160 square metres to operational yard functions and includes a 327-square-metre covered warehouse for tender storage. Those facilities address two common constraints during a refit: the need to work on the yacht while safely removing and storing equipment that would otherwise occupy precious deck and yard space.
Arpeca also plans dedicated changing and service facilities for crews, alongside buildings for management and equipment storage. Bringing these functions together should allow more of the maintenance programme to be coordinated on site, reducing unnecessary transfers between separate storage and working areas.
The plans include approximately 140 square metres of rentable office accommodation for visiting yacht crews and project teams, as well as a 170-square-metre panoramic terrace for owners and industry events. The wider site specification includes security and connectivity provisions and is designed to support the people managing a refit as well as the contractors performing it.
That is an important distinction for yacht managers because technically demanding yard periods are also administrative projects, with procurement, class surveys, work approvals and owner reporting taking place alongside physical repairs. Nearby office and storage facilities can make the coordination more practical, particularly for visiting captains and engineering teams.
The established Viareggio yard already provides a 560-tonne travel lift and more than 7,500 square metres of yard space, servicing yachts up to approximately 50 metres. The new Darsena location adds a different mix of operational capacity aimed at yachts up to 40 metres and their associated tender and crew requirements.
The development is another sign of investment in Viareggio's maritime service cluster, where builders and refit specialists operate alongside a deep local supplier base. Its impact will become clearer once the new facility is fully open and its capacity is incorporated into ongoing maintenance and refit programmes.
