Frigomar Introduces 210,000 BTU CU210 Yacht Chiller
Frigomar has introduced its CU210VFDT chiller with 210,000 BTU/h capacity, a titanium seawater exchanger and the same compact dimensions as its 180,000 BTU unit.

A+T Instruments' masthead wind sensors combine rapid measurement, analogue and digital outputs and spare-part support for older B&G systems installed on major sailing yachts.
British marine instrumentation specialist A+T Instruments is preparing to meet shipyards and yacht engineers at METSTRADE 2026 in Amsterdam, with its 500 Series masthead wind equipment among its specialist offerings. The family is designed both for demanding sailing use and for replacement of older wind sensors aboard yachts that continue to carry legacy navigation instruments.
Wind speed and direction readings are central to sail selection, trimming, race performance and watchkeeping on large sailing yachts. A deteriorating bearing or inconsistent directional calibration can affect information displayed throughout the vessel even while the instruments themselves appear to be functioning normally. Changing the masthead sensor can therefore have implications well beyond a single reading.
A+T says its wind units employ carbon vanes, corrosion-resistant ceramic bearings and high-aspect-ratio components designed for better light-wind response. The manufacturer describes individual calibration to 0.2 degrees and says the sensor reacts rapidly to wind changes. Those are product specifications, not independent measurements of an entire onboard system, and the actual accuracy seen at the helm will depend on installation and calibration.
The masthead unit forms the first link in a longer chain. Wiring, converters, processors and display filtering each affect the final values and the speed with which they update. A fast sensor may be undermined by a poorly configured processing system, while old cable joints can introduce intermittent faults unrelated to the sensor head. The engineer should examine every part of that signal path.
The digital configuration is offered with a 20Hz output through high-speed NMEA 0183 at 38,400 baud, with connection to NMEA 2000 possible using appropriate conversion equipment. A+T also offers analogue arrangements with traditional pulse and directional outputs. This allows the company to address both contemporary integrated bridge systems and existing installations whose owners are not planning a wholesale electronics replacement.
That approach has practical value during a staged refit. A yacht may need improved wind data now while retaining serviceable processors and displays for another season. However, compatibility is not established simply because an existing mast cable can be reused. The service team must check wiring, connector condition, power requirements, signal type and any processor settings before the vessel goes sailing again.
The supplier highlights compatible replacement components for older B&G sensor families, including 213 and various WS-series units. Some of its carbon-wand upgrades and spare parts are designed to work with legacy mast arrangements without rewriting the entire instrument installation. This can be especially important on large custom sailing yachts with complex rigging and narrow maintenance windows.
Replacing a component high on a mast can require rigging specialists and a suitable weather window, while troubleshooting during a guest passage may be impractical. Long-term parts availability and the possibility of testing a unit at deck level become important considerations when a captain assesses the cost of keeping the equipment reliable. A+T lists test cables and spare-part support alongside its complete instruments.
Apparent wind information is valuable but must be interpreted alongside mast movement, heel, the effect of sails and the yacht's motion through the water. A very precise sensor may still produce readings distorted by disturbed airflow around the rig. Crews should understand the difference between measured data, computed values and performance estimates generated elsewhere in the system.
Faster readings are particularly useful for performance analysis, but they can also encourage misplaced confidence if the whole system has not been checked. A sound commissioning plan should include direction alignment, steady-state checks, comparison with other observations and records of software and calibration settings. Consistency over time is often more valuable operationally than an impressive single accuracy figure.
Before signing off an upgraded sensor, a navigator should request an agreed test plan under several wind conditions and compare readings with the existing reference data. A record of the installed part number, calibration settings, connector changes and baseline measurements will help future crews distinguish a genuine wind shift from an instrument fault. Such information becomes especially useful when a yacht changes skipper or returns to the same rigging problem years later. Spare components can then be selected against the recorded configuration rather than guessed from appearance.
METSTRADE's official exhibitor list confirms A+T among specialist instrument suppliers. For superyacht technical teams the pertinent questions concern compatibility, service documentation, spares and technical response during a cruising season. An older sensor might be upgraded for improved performance, but it can also be replaced primarily to improve long-term reliability and reduce unplanned rig access.
The 500 Series is an established product rather than an October launch or proof of a new yacht installation. Its relevance lies in addressing a common problem aboard valuable sailing vessels: balancing improved instrument performance with the need to keep complex existing systems maintainable. The real test comes after commissioning, when sailors need trustworthy wind data hour after hour.
