Azimut Yachts and Assets Group have agreed a dedicated 18-yacht fleet for two Maldives luxury resorts, supported by a new Azimut Service Center in Malé.

Azimut Yachts and Assets Group have formed a strategic partnership that will place a dedicated fleet of 18 Azimut yachts into service in the Maldives, linking private cruising directly with two high-end resort experiences. The agreement was formally marked during the Cannes Yachting Festival aboard Azimut's 43.6-metre Grande 44M flagship.

Beginning in 2026, the fleet is intended to serve guests at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi and Rosewood Ranfaru Maldives. The project goes beyond a conventional yacht sale: a new Azimut Service Center in Malé is also planned to provide local technical and operational support, backed by Azimut's Italian team and Azimut Yachts Maldives powered by Elite Yachts.

An 18-yacht fleet built around resort hospitality

The partnership brings together Assets Group's luxury destination business and Azimut's yacht range with the aim of making cruising part of the resort guest journey rather than a separate excursion. In an island nation where transport between resorts, lagoons and anchorages is fundamental to the experience, a permanently based private fleet can provide transfers, day cruising and longer itineraries without relying entirely on third-party charter capacity.

Azimut's announcement confirms that 18 yachts will form the dedicated fleet. A fuller company release distributed to the marine press states that 15 of those yachts will come from the Magellano Series, although individual models and lengths for the complete fleet have not yet been disclosed. That distinction matters because the current Magellano range spans both sub-24-metre yachts and models above the Superyacht Guide threshold, so the entire order should not be described as an 18-superyacht order until the exact configuration is known.

Malé service centre adds permanent infrastructure

The planned Azimut Service Center in Malé is strategically important because the operating challenge in the Maldives is not simply acquiring yachts but keeping a large fleet available across a remote island environment. Local technical capability can reduce dependence on technicians flying in from Europe or the Middle East and can improve access to routine maintenance, diagnostics, warranty support and parts coordination.

Azimut says the centre will be supported by its Italian organisation and by Azimut Yachts Maldives powered by Elite Yachts, its regional partner. The arrangement gives the fleet a defined after-sales structure from the outset and may also strengthen Azimut's support network for other owners cruising or basing yachts in the Maldives.

Hospitality becomes a new yacht distribution channel

For Azimut, the deal also represents a different route to market. Instead of selling individual yachts solely to private owners, the builder is supplying a fleet intended to become part of the service infrastructure of luxury resorts. Azimut|Benetti Group chief executive Marco Valle described the partnership as significant both for distribution and for brand positioning within ultra-luxury hospitality.

Assets Group says the investment is intended to make it the operator of the largest private luxury yacht fleet in the Indian Ocean. The claim relates to its planned resort fleet rather than to a conventional charter brokerage fleet, but the scale of the order is notable and illustrates how yacht manufacturers can increasingly work with hotel and destination groups as institutional fleet customers.

Why the Maldives is a natural market for this model

The Maldives is unusually suited to a yacht-and-resort model because its geography makes movement on water part of almost every high-end visitor experience. A private fleet gives a resort group greater control over transfers, guest privacy, itinerary design and service standards while allowing visitors to use the surrounding islands and ocean as an extension of the resort itself.

The partnership also adds another layer to the region's developing yachting infrastructure. For larger yachts, the Maldives has long offered spectacular cruising but more limited technical support than established Mediterranean or Caribbean centres. A permanent manufacturer-backed service presence in Malé will not transform that market on its own, but it is a meaningful signal that builders and hospitality groups expect more structured yacht operations in the Indian Ocean.
