D-Marin reports the installation of 171 Ecocean Biohut units at four Mediterranean marinas after its biodiversity programme received a Cannes Yachting Festival award.
D-Marin announced on 16 September 2026 that its Biohut programme won the Best CSR Initiative category at the Cannes Yachting Festival Innovation Route Awards. The marina group says the project also received a silver award at the 2026 Tourism Awards, providing recognition for an initiative already installed rather than announcing a new marina opening.
The programme employs Ecocean's Biohut units, which are installed within existing marina structures to provide shelter and feeding areas for juvenile fish and invertebrates. The award is a recognition of the initiative, not independent proof of population recovery throughout the surrounding sea.
D-Marin reports that 171 units have been positioned by marine biologists and professional divers at Port Camille Rayon in France, Gouvia in Greece, Porto Mirabello in Italy and Dalmacija in Croatia. The group selected sites across four countries rather than claiming that the programme operates throughout its entire marina network.
Monitoring at Port Camille Rayon over three years recorded 14 fish species, 42 invertebrate and cryptobenthic species and eight species of fisheries interest, according to the operator. Those site-specific observations document recorded biodiversity but do not, on their own, demonstrate that every recorded species increased because of the installations.
D-Marin says approximately 50 local schoolchildren participated in activities for Biodiversity Day at Port Camille Rayon. This educational work sits alongside the operator's wider environmental initiatives, which include energy, conservation and waste-management programmes.
For yacht owners and captains, the project illustrates how marina operators can incorporate small-scale ecological infrastructure into their facilities. The longer-term environmental result will depend on continued monitoring, local water quality and transparent reporting rather than awards alone.
