D-Marin is combining its app, Smart Sensors and Smart Pedestals into a connected-marina system for remote yacht monitoring, utilities and berth management.

D-Marin is bringing several digital services together under its Connected Marina approach, linking its customer app with Smart Sensors and Smart Pedestals. The result is a marina-side system that allows owners and captains to handle routine administration, monitor aspects of a yacht’s condition and manage shore utilities without relying on repeated visits to the marina office.

The concept is particularly relevant to superyachts and professionally managed vessels because marina stays increasingly involve more than a berth and a power connection. Captains expect accurate utility data, remote administration and rapid warning when something changes aboard a yacht that may be unattended between crew visits.

Smart Sensors watch key conditions while the yacht is unattended

D-Marin says its marine-grade Smart Sensors can monitor bilge water levels, temperature changes, battery voltage and unauthorised movement. When a defined condition changes, the system can alert the owner by SMS or telephone while also notifying the marina team, creating both a remote warning and a local response path.

The sensors use independent batteries and are designed not to interfere with the yacht’s own electronic systems. That makes them a supplementary monitoring layer rather than a replacement for onboard alarms, watchkeeping routines or the vessel’s existing safety and security equipment.

Smart Pedestals bring shore power and water into the app

The Connected Marina system also links with D-Marin’s Smart Pedestals, allowing captains to monitor and control shoreside services through the same digital platform. Remote visibility of power and water use can make billing more transparent while reducing the amount of manual interaction needed to start, stop or review utility consumption.

On larger yachts, shore-power management can involve substantial loads and long berth stays, so better visibility is more than a convenience feature. Digital records can help operational teams track consumption patterns, investigate anomalies and compare berth costs across different periods or locations.

Berth administration is moving onto mobile platforms

D-Marin’s app also handles berth searches, bookings, digital check-in, payments and contract renewals. Moving these processes into one interface reduces paperwork for transient yachts and gives annual berth holders a more direct way to manage recurring marina administration.

The wider implication is that premium marinas are beginning to compete on digital service quality as well as location and physical infrastructure. Reliable power, depth and security remain fundamental, but captains are increasingly likely to notice whether a marina can integrate billing, vessel monitoring, communications and guest services into a coherent operating experience.

Connected marinas create new expectations for operators

Remote monitoring also raises expectations about response procedures and data reliability. If a system reports water ingress, battery decline or unexpected movement, the value comes from what happens next, so technology needs to sit behind clear marina protocols and well-defined responsibilities between owner, crew and berth operator.

D-Marin’s approach shows how the marina business is becoming more closely connected to yacht operations. As fleets grow larger and owners spend more time away from their vessels, digital infrastructure that reduces uncertainty between physical inspections is likely to become a standard part of premium berthing rather than an optional extra.
