FHG Marine Engineering Acquires Scott Marine Power in South Florida

FHG Marine Engineering has acquired Fort Lauderdale-based Scott Marine Power, combining two South Florida marine-service businesses and expanding FHG’s diesel-engine sales, service and technical capabilities.

FHG Marine Engineering has acquired Scott Marine Power, bringing the established Fort Lauderdale diesel-engine sales and service business into FHG's expanding South Florida marine engineering operation. The acquisition became effective on 31 July 2026 and combines two companies with complementary activity across yachts, commercial shipping, cruise and other marine sectors.

The transaction strengthens FHG's position in one of the world's most concentrated yacht-service markets while adding Scott Marine Power's established relationships with major propulsion and marine-equipment manufacturers. Terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed. FHG says it intends to retain Scott Marine Power's workforce while combining the technical capabilities and resources of the two businesses.

For the superyacht sector, the significance lies less in the size of the corporate transaction than in what it represents for South Florida's service industry. Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding marine-industrial corridor contain a dense network of shipyards, engineering companies, parts suppliers and specialist contractors supporting yachts before and after Caribbean seasons, refits, sales and transatlantic movements.

Scott Marine Power brings established engine relationships

Scott Marine Power operates from Fort Lauderdale and has built its business around marine diesel-engine sales, service, repair, overhaul and repower work, supported by technical staff and a substantial parts operation.

The company is an authorised sales and service dealer for MAN Marine Diesel Engines, Yanmar Marine Diesel Engines, Scania Marine Engines and OXE Diesel, together with Aventics marine controls and other equipment. That gives the business a useful position between equipment manufacturers and yacht owners, captains, engineers and management companies requiring both parts and technical support.

Scott Marine Power's Fort Lauderdale location is also commercially important. It operates within the wider Broward County marine-service cluster, close to many of the yards, marinas and contractors supporting large yachts in South Florida.

For FHG, acquiring those existing technical relationships provides a faster route to expanding its capabilities than attempting to build every manufacturer relationship, inventory position and specialist workforce organically.

FHG expands an already broad engineering operation

FHG Marine Engineering is headquartered in nearby Pompano Beach and provides maintenance, repair and overhaul services together with project management and lifecycle support for marine operators.

The company's activities extend across commercial, government and offshore maritime sectors, while its South Florida location also places it within the support ecosystem used by large yachts and their technical teams.

FHG maintains specialist equipment relationships of its own, including support for legacy marine-engine components, wastewater-treatment systems and compressor equipment. Scott Marine Power adds a complementary propulsion-focused operation with its own manufacturer relationships and customer base.

The geographical proximity of the two businesses should make integration more practical than a long-distance acquisition. The operations serve overlapping vessel populations within the same South Florida marine economy while bringing different technicians, equipment relationships and customer histories to the combined organisation.

Workforce retention matters in technical yacht support

FHG has said that Scott Marine Power's workforce will be retained following the acquisition. That is an important part of the transaction because marine-engine service businesses depend heavily on technicians with manufacturer-specific training and practical experience accumulated through installations, troubleshooting, repowers and overhauls.

Preserving those personnel allows FHG to acquire more than customer accounts and inventory. It retains the practical expertise required to continue supporting existing machinery installations and established client relationships.

This matters particularly in the yacht market, where engine-room problems frequently have consequences extending beyond the immediate repair. A delayed component or unresolved propulsion fault can disrupt a charter, yard schedule, owner trip or seasonal movement.

The commercial value of a technical-service company therefore depends partly on its ability to diagnose problems quickly, obtain the correct parts and maintain access to manufacturer support. Combining FHG's broader engineering capabilities with Scott Marine Power's propulsion expertise increases the technical resources available within the enlarged operation.

Consolidation inside the South Florida service ecosystem

The acquisition also illustrates the commercial importance of the service businesses surrounding the superyacht fleet. Builders and brokerage houses receive much of the industry's attention, but operation of a large yacht depends on a much broader network of engineering firms, engine specialists, electrical contractors, parts suppliers, shipyards and specialist technicians.

Fort Lauderdale is unusually concentrated in this respect. Its combination of marinas, shipyards, brokerage businesses, crew services and technical infrastructure has made the city one of the principal international support centres for yachts moving between the United States, Bahamas and Caribbean.

FHG's acquisition therefore strengthens its position inside an existing marine-service cluster rather than representing geographic expansion for its own sake. Scott Marine Power contributes an established Fort Lauderdale operation, recognised propulsion brands, parts capability and an existing customer base; FHG contributes a wider engineering and lifecycle-support organisation.

FHG president and CEO Richard Grennen has said the company intends to preserve the relationships and reputation built by Scott Marine Power while using the combined organisations to expand technical capabilities and customer support.

For yacht owners and operators, the practical test will be whether that integration produces broader technical resources without disrupting the relationships that made Scott Marine Power valuable in the first place. FHG's decision to retain the workforce suggests continuity is a central part of the acquisition strategy.

In a region where yachts depend on an extensive and increasingly sophisticated technical-service infrastructure, the transaction gives FHG Marine Engineering a larger role within the machinery, propulsion and maintenance side of South Florida's yachting economy.
