Garmin Launches JL Audio A60 Marine Head Units with Four-Zone Control

Garmin has expanded its JL Audio Marine range with the A60 and A60-H marine head units, introducing four-zone audio management with built-in digital signal processing and Bluetooth LE streaming. The two versions target different installation requirements, with the A60 using its own display and the A60-H designed as a more discreet hideaway unit.

The launch is relevant to yacht refit and new-build projects because entertainment systems increasingly share control networks with bridge and vessel-management electronics. Both units can work through a yacht's NMEA 2000 network, allowing audio control to be integrated with compatible Garmin multifunction displays rather than requiring a separate control point in every area.

Four audio zones with DSP

The A60 platform supports four separately controlled audio zones and uses digital signal processing to optimise the signal sent to speakers and subwoofers. Garmin also says the DSP can help protect connected components by managing the power delivered through the system, while its Easy Tune functionality is available through the redesigned Garmin Audio app.

Bluetooth LE provides wireless audio streaming from compatible devices. Owners and crew can also control playback through the Garmin Audio app, compatible remotes or selected Garmin marine smartwatches, which gives installers several options for distributing control around exterior and interior guest areas.

Integrated or hidden installation

The visible A60 uses a 2.95-inch high-resolution colour display intended to provide a modern helm or entertainment-console appearance. The A60-H removes the local screen and is designed to operate through compatible Garmin displays, making it better suited to installations where designers want to minimise visible hardware.

Both versions are rated to IPX6 and IPX7 standards and are designed to withstand exposure to water, salt fog, ultraviolet light and temperature changes. Those environmental protections are important on yachts because audio hardware can be installed far beyond the climate-controlled saloon, including flybridges, beach clubs and exterior dining spaces.

NMEA 2000 remote-control options

Garmin is also offering the JL Audio R5 volume controller and NRX-300 wired remote for use with the A60 platform. Both connect through NMEA 2000, with the NRX-300 providing display-based control for as many as four zones and the R5 offering a simpler physical volume and play-pause interface.

The A60 and A60-H are available now with a US suggested retail price of $599.99. As with any yacht entertainment installation, the final system cost will depend on amplifiers, speakers, network design, cabling, control integration and the number of zones required across the vessel.
