Genoa Opens €12m Polo della Nautica With 140-Tonne Lift

Genoa has added another piece to its yacht-service infrastructure with the new Polo della Nautica in the Waterfront di Levante, a €12 million facility bringing Genoa Sea Service, Gatti and North Sails into one shared operational site. The centre is focused on sailing and motor yachts up to 30 metres, making the upper end directly relevant to the 24-metre-plus superyacht fleet while also supporting the tender market around larger yachts.

Sixteen thousand square metres bring three specialists together

The site covers 16,000 square metres ashore and includes a two-storey industrial building providing 6,200 square metres of covered space. Genoa Sea Service and Gatti operate on the ground floor, while North Sails has moved its Italian sail loft into the upper level, bringing refit, maintenance and sailmaking into one waterfront location without merging the businesses themselves.

A further 1,000 square metres of equipped quays, 5,300 square metres of water area and 356 linear metres of technical berthing expand the working footprint beyond the sheds. The shared infrastructure is intended to let the two yards accept larger work than before while giving North Sails closer day-to-day contact with owners, captains and project teams using the waterfront.

A 140-tonne travel lift raises the size ceiling

The most visible equipment upgrade is a new 140-tonne travel lift serving an extended haul-out and launching basin. Genoa Sea Service says the investment strengthens its refit and maintenance work on sailing and motor yachts between 15 and 30 metres, a range that crosses directly into the smaller-superyacht sector.

The company also identifies superyacht tenders as a long-standing part of its activity, giving the facility relevance beyond yachts that fit under the 30-metre ceiling themselves. Large custom tenders increasingly require specialist composite, mechanical, electrical and finish work comparable with small yachts, so a dedicated service base can support both mothership programmes and independent leisure craft.

Gatti extends Amico Marine’s service range downward

Gatti became part of Amico Marine in 2024, and its participation gives the wider group a route into medium-size refit work alongside Amico’s established large-yacht capabilities elsewhere in Genoa. The yard plans further investment including electrification of technical berths, while the new covered workshops, carpentry areas and offices provide a more structured base for projects already entering the facility.

The arrangement is notable because the three participating businesses retain their own identities and specialist roles while sharing expensive marine infrastructure. For clients, that can reduce the physical distance between hull work, systems service and sail support without requiring one company to recreate every trade internally.

Genoa’s waterfront gains another technical layer

The new centre sits within the wider Levante Waterfront development and will hold its formal client and industry inauguration on 2 October during the Genoa International Boat Show. Its scale does not challenge the city’s large-superyacht yards, but instead fills a different part of the service chain where 24-to-30-metre yachts and substantial tenders need haul-out capacity and covered technical space.

That complementary role is the more important industry story. Genoa already has a deep concentration of large-yacht refit expertise, and the Polo della Nautica adds a shared specialist facility below the very large-yacht tier, strengthening the possibility of keeping more of a yacht programme’s ancillary craft and smaller vessels within the same regional service ecosystem.
