MacGregor Opens Trieste Service Hub to Expand European Mega-Yacht Support

MacGregor has opened a new service-engineer hub in Trieste, Italy, expanding the company’s European service capacity and adding a strategically located base that will also support its specialised mega-yacht business. The hub began operating on 1 September 2026 and is intended to strengthen the availability of service engineers across the region.

For superyacht owners, captains, managers and refit yards, the significance is less about a new office and more about access to engineering capacity. Large yachts increasingly depend on complex deck machinery, access systems and handling equipment that require manufacturer-level technical support, particularly during refit periods and when vessels are moving between Mediterranean yards.

Trieste adds capacity to MacGregor’s European service network

MacGregor says the Trieste location was selected after assessing both its position within the European service network and the availability of skilled technical personnel. Recruitment of service engineers has already begun, with the hub expected to be fully functional by the end of 2026.

The company describes the site as a regional resource pool designed to provide additional capacity and flexibility across its European service locations. That model allows engineers to be deployed where demand is highest rather than limiting the new operation to work generated only in the northern Adriatic.

Mega-yacht service is specifically included

MacGregor explicitly identifies its specialised mega-yacht business among the activities the Trieste hub will support. That makes the announcement directly relevant to the superyacht sector, where manufacturer-backed servicing can be important for gangways, side doors, platforms, cranes, tender-handling systems and other mechanically intensive equipment.

Trieste is also well positioned within a wider Adriatic and northern Mediterranean refit geography. The city has established commercial maritime infrastructure, while nearby Italian, Croatian and Slovenian cruising and service areas place the new engineering base within practical reach of yachts operating across the region.

Why regional technical support matters

Modern superyachts carry increasingly integrated mechanical and hydraulic systems, and downtime can become expensive when specialist technicians or parts have to travel long distances. Adding engineers closer to active cruising and refit areas can reduce mobilisation time and give fleet managers another route to manufacturer-level support.

The value of the new hub will ultimately depend on staffing levels, technician specialisms and the equipment types supported from Trieste. MacGregor’s announcement nevertheless shows that the company is increasing service capacity in Europe rather than relying solely on existing bases, with mega-yacht work included in the expansion from the outset.

Hub expected to be fully operational by year-end

MacGregor says recruitment is under way and that the Trieste operation should reach full functionality by the end of 2026. The company has not published a final engineer headcount for the location, so Superyacht Guide will treat the staffing scale as unconfirmed until further details are released.
