Azimut Magellano 27M Wins 2026 Design Innovation Award
The Azimut Magellano 27M has won the 2026 Design Innovation Award in the superyachts over 24 metres category at the Genoa International Boat Show.
The 53-metre Maiora M|53 concept by Luca Dini features three distinct activity zones: a private owner’s forward retreat, a stern beach area and an Observatory Deck.
Maiora has introduced M|53, a 53-metre steel-and-aluminium superyacht proposal developed with designer Luca Dini. The project was unveiled in September 2026 as part of the builder’s renewed direction in larger yachts. The company describes a design focused on different moods and activities through the day, rather than imposing one dominant formal saloon on every guest.
The technical outline places the concept under 500 gross tons, a volume category that can shape vessel design and regulation. The stated dimensions and renderings describe a proposed product; they should not be mistaken for evidence of a new delivery or an accepted construction contract. Final engineering and classification documentation would still be required before the yacht could enter operation.
M|53 is distinct from Maiora’s Supernova 50 project, which has different collaborators and guest arrangements. Whereas Supernova emphasises an ELIE SAAB partnership, Luca Dini’s concept concentrates on three separate experiences aboard the larger M|53. Understanding the distinction is important for buyers comparing two proposals from the same builder at the same time.
The forward part of the M|53 is conceived as a private owner’s retreat with accommodation, private office, dressing spaces and a personal wellness area. Maiora describes a suite covering more than one hundred square metres of indoor and outdoor living when its associated terrace is included. A private swimming pool and panoramic outlook give the arrangement a residential rather than purely nautical character.
Placing a pool and substantial private terrace high and forward involves more than designing a photogenic deck. A future build must address weight, drainage, motions at sea and protected circulation when the yacht is underway. The working plan should also determine how cleaners and crew can reach necessary service areas without compromising an owner’s privacy.
Such a suite can be especially appealing to an owner who spends long periods aboard and needs quiet working space. It may be less relevant to a buyer who hosts very large parties and prefers to devote the prime deck to shared entertaining. The value of the layout depends on the actual cruising and hospitality programme, not on a single measure of luxury.
The second major focus of the design is the aft beach area, organised around a swimming pool, bar, seating and waterside relaxation. It is intended to encourage guests to gather closer to the sea while the vessel is in a suitable anchorage. The practicality of its moving components and access routes would need to be established as the project progresses.
Above the usual deck sequence, Luca Dini proposes an Observatory Deck at the highest point of the yacht. The space is designed for watching the horizon in relative calm, with movable covers that allow use across a wider range of weather. The idea reflects a growing interest in small, highly personal spaces on yachts otherwise defined by enormous common areas.
These three zones — the forward owner’s retreat, aft beach area and upper observatory — are linked by an intention to let guests choose how to spend the day. One person might work, another swim and another read above the bridge. Supporting that freedom will require efficient crew routes and thoughtful allocation of equipment, pantry and storage areas.
Maiora describes generous glazing and a flowing relationship between interior and exterior spaces. A future owner will need to review thermal comfort, solar shading and privacy alongside the promised visual openness. The design also includes flexible guest and wellness accommodation, with an intention to serve both private use and potentially high-end charter operations.
Before any contract, the builder and client team should agree a precise general arrangement, machinery proposal and classification pathway. The company has not published final sea-trial results or a delivery milestone for this concept. No specific range or performance guarantee should be inferred simply from its steel hull and long, balanced exterior profile.
M|53 is a meaningful extension of Maiora’s design portfolio, showing how Luca Dini imagines comfort and privacy in the fifty-metre segment. Its Observatory Deck and private forward pool give it an identity separate from the builder’s other models. The next newsworthy step will be a documented build commitment or technical milestone that turns the proposal into a working yacht.
