Protection systems return to the marine trade-show floor

Mr. Shrinkwrap used IBEX 2026 in Tampa to present two related products intended to protect boats and other valuable assets during storage and transport. ShrinkCover is a fitted, heat-shrinkable covering system, while ShrinkShield is a flexible material supplied in rolls for projects that demand custom wrapping. The company announced its exhibition plans on 6 October and presented both options to boatbuilders, contractors and equipment owners.

The distinction matters because covering a personal watercraft for off-season storage differs from protecting oddly shaped machinery being shipped to a superyacht refit. A fitted cover can simplify repeated protection where its dimensions match the object, while roll material allows a professional installer to construct an enclosure around larger or more complex equipment. Neither format is a substitute for planning support, ventilation and safe access.

What goes into the ShrinkShield material

ShrinkShield is described as a white, seven-mil, triple-layer wrapping fabric built with a low-density polyethylene exterior and a nonwoven backing. The manufacturer says this composition is intended to help limit punctures, tears and abrasion while still shrinking tightly when heat is properly applied. Its stated roll widths are 40, 60, 80 and 123 inches, with lengths dependent on the selected width.

Marine technical teams should remember that claims about a material's protective qualities describe an appropriately selected and installed covering. Unprotected sharp edges, trapped moisture, inappropriate heating equipment and unsupported spans can compromise a wrapped assembly or its contents. A practical preservation plan should address drainage, moisture control and inspection intervals, not simply the condition of the outer film.

How ShrinkCover could serve a yacht tender fleet

ShrinkCover targets shaped boat covers that can be tightened with heat to reduce loose fabric, flapping and exposure to wind, road dirt, rain and ultraviolet light. The company's marine catalogue lists configurations for personal watercraft, V-hull boats, pontoons and wake-tower craft across several nominal length ranges. Its guidance distinguishes certain indoor storage applications from trailer transportation, when heat shrinking and secure installation are required.

Large yachts often carry small craft with unusual grab rails, consoles, towing points, antennae and high-gloss finishes. These features can make an apparently suitable standard cover impractical without extra support or padding. A tender captain should therefore check the complete geometry and exposed equipment before specifying a particular ShrinkCover style, rather than assume that nominal hull length provides all the fitting information.

The business behind the protection products

Mr. Shrinkwrap is a distributor and installer of shrink films, accessories and industrial protective wrapping systems based in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. The company also supplies heat tools and provides wrapping services for assets beyond boats, including machinery and large structures. Its IBEX presentation is a product and service showcase, not an announcement of a newly built superyacht or a specific contract with a yacht yard.

The accompanying hero photograph is an original Mr. Shrinkwrap image showing a wrapped boat; it illustrates shrink-wrap protection generally rather than documenting the precise ShrinkCover product exhibited in Tampa. For yacht managers, the strongest commercial case for these systems is reduced exposure during shipment or storage when combined with careful preparation, regular checks and a professionally executed protection specification.
