Nextfour and Q Experience earn an IBEX 2026 electronics honourable mention for the Q Float display, drawing attention to adaptable helm layouts and integrated boat monitoring.

An honourable mention for a different helm layout

Nextfour and its Q Experience marine-electronics brand received an honourable mention in the OEM Electronics category of the 2026 IBEX Innovation Awards for the Q Float display. The distinction was announced on 6 October at the Tampa boatbuilding exhibition, with the award programme managed by the National Marine Manufacturers Association and assessed by Boating Writers International.

The Q Float result sits alongside the category award for Garmin's Signal VHF 400 and recognises a separate approach to onboard displays, not the same radio or navigation function. The organiser's official results establish the honourable mention but do not publish detailed test figures for this specific installation. Equipment decisions should therefore be based on Nextfour's current product schedule rather than treating the award as a substitute for compatibility evidence.

Where integrated displays matter aboard tenders

A yacht tender helm often has limited space for chart displays, depth and engine instruments, entertainment controls, switching and communications. Good integration can reduce repeated information and simplify daily operation, but it also makes careful interface design important. The operator should still have clear access to critical navigation and emergency functions even if an integrated display or network component fails.

Nextfour's wider Q Experience ecosystem combines displays, digital switching, monitoring, entertainment and connected features. The manufacturer promotes consumer-electronics-style interaction and configurable user interfaces, allowing builders to shape the display around the equipment and controls fitted to a particular vessel. Product-family descriptions also mention gesture controls and a single-cable relationship with a separate central unit in the floating-display concept.

Integration is more than screen appearance

Superyacht crews evaluating a connected helm should look beyond glass size, brightness or elegant mounting. The evaluation should cover input methods with wet hands, accessibility in direct sunlight, navigation data sources, software update support, cyber security, power redundancy and how existing systems behave during a partial communications failure. Any claim of compatibility with an engine or digital switch should be verified at the exact product, software and network-version level.

Tender equipment can also differ substantially from the parent yacht's bridge: a fast open boat may require vibration-resistant mounting and direct physical controls in areas where a sheltered displacement tender could favour a more elaborate graphical interface. A central display should support those operational distinctions rather than impose one control layout indiscriminately across the fleet.

Nextfour's development background

Nextfour is a Finnish technology and design business founded in 2007, with work spanning marine, medical and industrial electronic systems. Its Q Experience offering is presented as an integrated software-and-hardware environment rather than a single navigation instrument. That development model is particularly relevant to boatbuilders seeking a repeatable electronic architecture that can be tailored across several models.

The original company photograph used with this report illustrates the broader Q Displays family; it is not represented as a confirmed photograph of the award-winning Q Float prototype. No named superyacht project or vessel-specific delivery was disclosed by the IBEX organisers in the award announcement.
