Raymarine’s RCU-1 wireless autopilot remote adds Point-and-Go steering, NMEA 2000 data display and a Solo Sailor safety mode for Evolution systems.
Raymarine has introduced the RCU-1, a wireless remote for Evolution autopilot systems that gives crew control away from the main helm. The unit combines a bright colour display with tactile controls and Raymarine’s Point-and-Go steering function.
The remote can show vessel heading, speed, depth and waypoint information received through the onboard NMEA 2000 or SeaTalkNG network. A wireless range of up to 30 metres is provided through the companion WG-1 gateway in suitable conditions.
RCU-1 includes a Solo Sailor mode designed to respond if the remote moves beyond Bluetooth range or the wearer enters the water. Depending on setup, the autopilot can turn the vessel into the wind or reduce speed while an alarm is raised.
The feature is intended to give short-handed sailors another layer of protection without requiring a separate control device. It does not replace established man-overboard procedures, but it connects the autopilot more directly to the person operating the yacht.
The remote is powered by two AA batteries, with Raymarine quoting up to 30 days of typical battery life. The starter kit includes both the RCU-1 and the WG-1 wireless gateway needed to connect with the vessel’s network.
For yacht refits, the wireless approach can reduce the need to run control cabling to every exterior operating position. It also gives crews a portable interface for routine course changes while retaining the data and control environment of the Evolution autopilot system.
