Royal Huisman's 85-metre Project 410 is entering final completion as the world's largest sloop-rigged sailing yacht prepares to move toward launch and mast stepping.

Royal Huisman has revealed further details of the 85-metre Project 410 as the sailing yacht approaches the final stage of work at Vollenhove. The aluminium project is set to become the world's largest sloop and one of the ten largest sailing yachts in service.

Frers Design developed the complete sailing concept

Exterior design, naval architecture and the overall concept are by Frers Design, while Wetzels Brown is responsible for the interior. Rondal, Royal Huisman's sister company, has developed the carbon mast, boom and integrated sailing system for the project.

The brief was not simply to maximise length. The design team has focused on keeping the yacht recognisably sailing-led, with low heel angles, efficient hydrodynamics and deck lines that preserve the visual clarity expected of a large performance sloop.

The yacht is due to move to deep water near Amsterdam

Royal Huisman plans to transfer Project 410 from Vollenhove to its deepwater facility near Amsterdam for launch, mast stepping and completion work. The hull was turned in summer 2024, while many details remained confidential through most of the construction period.

Moving a yacht of this scale from build hall to deep water is itself a substantial logistics exercise. The final stage will bring together the completed aluminium platform, the Rondal rig and systems commissioning before the yacht enters trials.

Energy regeneration is part of the technical package

The project incorporates technology linked to Royal Huisman's Tidal Shift sustainability programme, including energy regeneration under sail, high-capacity battery storage and silent operating modes. Those systems are intended to reduce generator use without changing the core sailing experience.

Large sailing yachts are well suited to regeneration because long passages can produce sustained propeller rotation under sail. Converting part of that motion into stored electrical energy can reduce fuel use for hotel loads and lower machinery noise during quieter periods.

The interior keeps principal spaces close to the sea

Wetzels Brown has arranged the main living spaces on one level within the hull beneath a relatively compact deckhouse. Large hull windows, skylights and generous ceiling heights are intended to create natural light without overwhelming the exterior profile.

Project 410 will be judged by more than its record length because Royal Huisman has positioned it as a sailing yacht first. The launch and trial programme will show how successfully the project balances extraordinary scale with the handling, comfort and silence expected by its owner.
