SEA.AI has tested its machine-vision technology across multiple crewed and uncrewed vessel platforms during the REPMUS 2026 exercise in Portugal.

SEA.AI has demonstrated its machine-vision technology across several crewed and uncrewed vessel platforms during REPMUS 2026 in Portugal, testing how camera-based detection can strengthen maritime situational awareness.

A common perception layer

The company integrated its vision technology with platforms from Maritime Robotics, SYOS Aerospace, Polar Mist Technologies and the Portuguese Navy. The aim was to test whether one machine-vision layer could support different hulls, autonomy systems and mission profiles.

SEA.AI says the system can identify small or unlit craft, floating objects and people in the water, adding visual information to radar, AIS and satellite-navigation data.

Lessons from yachting move into autonomy

The company developed its detection technology in offshore sailing and recreational boating, where crews cannot assume every hazard will transmit a signal or produce a strong radar return. SEA.AI says more than 1,300 vessels now use its systems in civilian applications.

At REPMUS, the same underlying technology was used to evaluate passive visual detection on uncrewed platforms, including systems operating in environments where GNSS interference or radar emissions can become operational concerns.

Interoperability under realistic conditions

REPMUS brings together navies, technology companies and research organisations to test maritime autonomous systems in live conditions. SEA.AI's participation focused on interoperability and on reducing the need for each platform developer to create a separate visual-perception stack.
