Seares has won the Scaling Pitch Award at Monaco’s Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous for active mooring dampers with load monitoring and energy recovery.
Italian marine-technology company Seares has won the Scaling Pitch Award at the sixth Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous. The award recognised the company’s active mooring-damper technology, which is designed to reduce dynamic loads while collecting operational data from the berth.
The system uses mechatronic dampers rather than relying only on passive rubber components. Seares says the equipment can absorb wave-driven movement, measure mooring loads and feed data into an IoT platform for continuous monitoring and maintenance planning.
Traditional mooring systems are normally treated as passive infrastructure whose condition is checked visually or during scheduled maintenance. Adding sensors and load data allows marina operators and captains to see how lines, docks and vessels respond during changing wind, swell and traffic conditions.
Seares also uses movement within the damper to generate small amounts of electricity for onboard telemetry. The technology therefore combines mechanical load reduction with monitoring and energy recovery rather than requiring a separate powered sensor system for every berth.
Superyachts place substantial forces on bollards, lines and floating infrastructure, particularly in exposed marinas or during unusual weather. Better load control can improve comfort onboard while also reducing wear on the vessel and shore infrastructure over long berthing periods.
The Monaco award does not replace real-world engineering assessment, but it gives Seares additional visibility among marina developers and superyacht operators. The next stage is broader deployment and long-duration performance data across different berth types, vessel sizes and environmental conditions.
