Yanmar Marine International will move to direct distribution in Italy from the end of Q4 2026, while long-time distributor Cartello remains a dealer and service partner.
Yanmar Marine International plans to assume direct responsibility for distributing its marine products in Italy from the end of the fourth quarter of 2026. The change replaces a long-standing exclusive distribution arrangement with a more direct presence in a country that contains some of Europe's most important recreational and superyacht-building businesses.
The manufacturer says its objective is closer contact with yards and equipment customers, together with improved coordination of product supply, technical support and service arrangements. An organisational change of this kind can be significant even though it does not involve a new engine model.
Cartello has handled Yanmar distribution in Italy since 1985 and will remain an authorised dealer and servicing partner. The company operates from Carasco near Genoa, giving it established relationships with owners, marine technicians and other businesses in the region.
Retaining that experience is important during a transition. Customers who have purchased engines or parts through one network need clarity about warranty handling, spare-part availability and the businesses authorised to carry out maintenance as the commercial responsibilities change.
Italy is a major yacht manufacturing centre, serving domestic customers and international owners who commission vessels to cruise elsewhere. Equipment suppliers working with builders may have to coordinate early installation specifications, technical drawings, commissioning support and after-sales information.
A direct relationship between Yanmar's own teams and a shipyard can potentially reduce the time needed to interpret engineering requests or resolve equipment problems. The value of that arrangement will depend on how the local organisation actually performs once it is in operation.
Yanmar's recreational marine activities extend beyond engines to include brands associated with deck machinery, propulsion equipment and stabilisation, such as VETUS, Maxwell, Flexofold and Smartgyro. Changes in distribution arrangements may therefore be relevant to a range of yacht systems.
For yacht managers, these categories do not always share identical installation or service requirements. Confirming the appropriate contact for a specific product remains essential rather than assuming that an engine distributor handles every brand and every item in the same way.
Yanmar has described the handover as a structured process intended to protect continuity of product availability and after-sales support. Owners, yards and dealers should request current contact and warranty information as the fourth-quarter change approaches.
The announcement should not be interpreted as the closure of Cartello or a direct new-build contract with a named yacht. Its importance lies in the manufacturer's developing service structure in a market critical to marine equipment supply.
