Baglietto has completed a World Boating Day schools contest in La Spezia focused on creativity, maritime culture and younger generations.
Baglietto has completed a creative schools programme in La Spezia designed to connect younger students with the sea and the local maritime industry. The initiative formed part of the yard’s Officina Baglietto education programme and coincided with World Boating Day.
Primary and middle-school pupils were invited to explore the cultural, environmental and human importance of the sea through creative projects. The programme was supported by Confindustria La Spezia, local education authorities and the Municipality of La Spezia.
Thirteen classes participated, producing nine projects across illustration, installation work, audio storytelling and video. The format deliberately moved beyond technical shipbuilding so that pupils could approach the maritime world through subjects already familiar to them.
Baglietto used the competition to reinforce the relationship between the shipyard and the city that has supported it for generations. The event also created a practical route for younger students to see yacht building as part of a wider local culture rather than an isolated industrial activity.
European yacht builders continue to compete for skilled workers across engineering, craft and technical disciplines. Programmes aimed at schools can therefore play a long-term role by introducing marine careers before students are choosing vocational or university paths.
For Baglietto, the initiative sits alongside the commercial expansion of its yacht range. It demonstrates that the yard’s local responsibilities extend beyond building and selling yachts into education, community links and the future pipeline of maritime skills.
