Intellian Debuts GMDSS Console and VS60 at SMM 2026

Intellian has given its new GMDSS Console a European debut at SMM while also showing the 65cm VS60 ViaSat-3 terminal and OneWeb maritime flat panels.

Intellian Technologies has used SMM 2026 in Hamburg to introduce a new GMDSS Console, the VS60 ViaSat-3 terminal and an expanded range of OneWeb flat-panel connectivity hardware. The package brings safety communications and high-bandwidth multi-orbit connectivity into the same product showcase, reflecting how modern vessel communications are increasingly designed as integrated systems.

Intellian says the European debut of its GMDSS Console is aimed at simplifying installation of Iridium-based distress and safety equipment, while the VS60 targets compact GEO connectivity. The company is also displaying maritime flat panels for Eutelsat OneWeb that can form the low-latency LEO component of hybrid services such as Inmarsat NexusWave.

New GMDSS Console targets simpler shipyard installation

The factory-assembled GMDSS Console is supplied pre-wired and fully tested, reducing the amount of integration work that must be completed after equipment reaches the yard. It is designed around Intellian's Iridium GMDSS products and can be paired with the company's VHF, MF/HF Class A radio and NAVTEX systems as those products move toward commercial availability.

For superyacht builders, installation efficiency matters because communications hardware competes for bridge, rack and antenna space with navigation, security and entertainment systems. A pre-engineered console can reduce interface work, although the final arrangement still has to meet flag, class, power, antenna-separation and redundancy requirements for the individual yacht.

VS60 brings ViaSat-3 into a 65cm maritime terminal

Intellian describes the VS60 as the market's only 65cm maritime terminal for the ultra-high-capacity ViaSat-3 constellation. A smaller antenna footprint can be significant on yachts where radomes must be balanced against styling, mast loading, shadow sectors and the large number of other antennas required for communications and safety systems.

The company is also highlighting OneWeb LEO flat panels, which offer a low-profile alternative to conventional parabolic terminals. Those panels can operate as part of hybrid connectivity architectures that combine different orbital layers and frequency bands, allowing service providers to shift traffic between networks according to availability and performance.

Safety communications remain separate from passenger broadband

Intellian notes that GMDSS compliance applies to an estimated 80,000-plus vessels worldwide, and the safety role of those systems should not be confused with ordinary broadband. Distress alerting, safety information and regulated radio functions require approved equipment and defined operating procedures even when a yacht also carries fast LEO and GEO internet services.

The SMM display includes MED Wheelmark-approved C200M and C100M Iridium Certus GMDSS systems as part of the company's broader safety portfolio. For yachts operating commercially or under particular flag and tonnage regimes, the required communications fit can therefore extend well beyond the connectivity systems used by owners, guests and crew for everyday data.

Multi-orbit hardware becomes part of yacht communications design

Intellian's 2026 line-up shows how quickly vessel communications architecture is becoming multi-network rather than centred on one satellite service. Antenna placement, network segmentation, cyber controls and failover strategy all become more important when several terminals are bonded or managed together to provide continuous connectivity.

For superyachts, the result is a bridge and mast-design challenge as much as a bandwidth opportunity. The best installation will need to preserve regulated safety communications while giving the owner high-performance data services, keeping antenna interference under control and ensuring the technical team can support the system throughout a global cruising programme.
