D-Marin Details Dubai J1 Beach Anchorage and Tender Service
D-Marin's October guidance explains how visiting yachts use a permitted offshore anchorage and dedicated tender service to reach Dubai's J1 Beach restaurants.
Grand Harbour Marina in Birgu says a small number of winter berths for superyachts at least 50 metres long will be available from 1 November 2026.
Grand Harbour Marina has identified a small amount of winter space for yachts measuring 50 metres or more, with availability starting on 1 November 2026. The announcement is relevant to captains preparing their vessels for the quieter Mediterranean months because berthing for larger yachts cannot be assumed to remain open at short notice. The operator stresses that the number of spaces is limited.
The facility sits in Birgu, opposite Valletta across Malta's Grand Harbour, offering a protected central Mediterranean base rather than a summer-only stopping point. This latest availability notice should be distinguished from the marina's wider winter programme for yachts above 40 metres announced earlier in the year. It concerns a narrower size category and a specific start date for the remaining berths.
Winter positioning is normally decided around practical considerations: the type of berth, available electrical supply, crew access, security arrangements and a vessel's maintenance schedule. Grand Harbour Marina says its facilities operate year-round, providing an option for teams that need a functioning base while owners are away. Captains still need to confirm the technical requirements for their particular vessel directly with the marina.
Malta's location also keeps several central Mediterranean routes within planning reach, including Gozo, Sicily and southern Italy. That geographic convenience can be useful for yachts moving between refit appointments or preparing for the next charter season. It does not remove the need to consider winter weather windows, port requirements or the operational costs associated with moving a large yacht.
The marina points to Malta's established engineering and shipyard services as an advantage for winter stays. A stationary yacht often needs planned inspections, system servicing, painting preparations and periodic surveys, so a berth close to contractors can reduce unnecessary repositioning. The availability announcement is not itself a confirmed slot at any shipyard, however, and separate workshop or dry-dock appointments remain essential.
For captains and crew, Grand Harbour Marina is also promoting a programme of local activities intended to sustain morale during a long alongside period. Crew welfare becomes particularly important when work and leisure take place in the same relatively small environment for several months. Nearby hospitality services and the historic streets of Birgu and Valletta offer opportunities to spend time away from the vessel.
The operator says winter berthing can attract more favourable rates than high-season stays, although it has not published a universal price for these particular large-yacht spaces in the announcement. Actual charges will depend on length, berth selection, stay dates and the requested services. A useful quotation should set out utilities, local charges and any operational restrictions as well as the headline berth fee.
Malta International Airport provides international connections for crew changes, contractors and owner visits, another practical element of choosing a winter homeport. The marina is inviting enquiries from captains and managers while the limited capacity remains. Before committing, operators should confirm the vessel's full dimensions, mooring arrangements and arrival requirements rather than treating the notice as a guaranteed reservation.
