Opacmare Launches Alama Studio for Design-Led Yacht Fitness Equipment

Opacmare has extended its yacht-equipment expertise into the wellness sector with the launch of Alama Studio, a new business focused on design-led fitness equipment. The Italian company says the project applies knowledge developed through the design and production of yacht and superyacht components to weights and other training products intended to work as considered interior objects as well as exercise equipment.

The concept is based on treating function, ergonomics, materials, form and finish as one design problem rather than decorating conventional gym equipment after it has been engineered. Opacmare says that approach allows the collection to sit naturally in spaces where visible equipment has to meet the same aesthetic expectations as furniture, lighting and other custom interior elements.

Superyacht materials experience moves into wellness design

Opacmare’s core marine business has long required attention to materials, moving mechanisms, corrosion resistance, finishing quality and the visual integration of hardware into yacht architecture. Alama Studio draws on that background but applies it to products whose main function is personal fitness rather than boarding, handling tenders or creating access to the water.

The transfer is relevant because onboard gyms often occupy prominent guest areas rather than hidden technical rooms. Equipment has to work safely in a marine environment while also matching a tightly controlled interior palette, and standard commercial-gym products can appear visually out of place inside a highly customised yacht.

The collection is intended for yachts as well as residences and hotels

Opacmare is not positioning Alama Studio as a marine-only brand. The company identifies yacht and superyacht fitness spaces alongside private residences, hotels and other wellness environments, giving the new business a wider luxury-design market while retaining the manufacturing and finishing experience that comes from yachting.

That broader scope also reflects the crossover between yacht interiors and high-end residential or hospitality design. Owners and designers often work with the same architects, materials and specialist suppliers across different properties, so a product developed to satisfy yacht-level finish expectations can potentially move between sea and shore without being redesigned from the beginning.

Fitness equipment is becoming part of the visible interior scheme

Wellness spaces aboard large yachts have expanded from compact exercise rooms into dedicated gyms, treatment rooms, spas and multi-use health areas. As those spaces become more prominent, the equipment itself becomes part of the interior composition and is increasingly judged on proportions, detailing and material quality as well as training performance.

Alama Studio’s stated aim is therefore not simply to make weights look more luxurious. The company says the product is considered as a whole, integrating the characteristics needed for exercise with choices about form, tactile quality and finishes that allow equipment to remain visible without undermining the surrounding design language.

Opacmare is using marine know-how beyond traditional yacht hardware

The launch is also a diversification move for a supplier known primarily for technical yacht equipment. Rather than entering an unrelated mass-market category, Opacmare is moving into a field where its established skills in materials, finishing and bespoke presentation can still provide a clear point of difference.

For yacht designers and owners, the practical interest will be whether the resulting equipment combines credible training function with the durability and finish expected on board. If it does, Alama Studio adds another specialist option for projects where a gym is treated as part of the yacht’s designed living environment rather than as a room filled with standard commercial equipment.
