Oyster Reveals 36M Flagship With 9.26m Beam and 670m² Sail Plan

Oyster Yachts has used the Monaco Yacht Show to put full dimensions and design detail behind the new flagship it first teased earlier this month. The Oyster 36M is a 36-metre sailing superyacht by Frers, combining the British builder’s long-distance cruising philosophy with significantly more volume, sail area and owner customisation than its established production range.

Frers gives the new flagship a 9.26-metre beam

The 36M measures 36 metres overall and 34.25 metres on the waterline, with a 9.26-metre beam and standard-keel draught of 3.8 metres. Its 49.2-metre air draught places the rig firmly in superyacht territory, while the 670-square-metre sail area defines a yacht intended to sail seriously rather than use the rig as a visual signature.

Oyster has positioned the design around bluewater capability rather than short-range Mediterranean use, drawing on Frers Naval Architecture & Engineering for the sailing platform. That pairing gives the new flagship a different design lineage from simply scaling an existing Oyster upward, while retaining the protection and practical considerations associated with long-distance cruising.

Fuel and water capacity reveal the intended mission

The published specification includes 12,000 litres of fuel and 4,500 litres of fresh water. Those numbers matter because they show the yacht being conceived for extended passages and independent cruising, where machinery endurance, hotel loads and the practicalities of living aboard become as important as deck styling.

At this size, range is not expressed only through engine fuel because sailing performance changes the operating equation. The combination of a large sail plan and substantial tankage gives an owner more freedom to choose between sailing, motor-sailing and powered passages depending on weather, schedule and destination.

The interior is deliberately left open to individual ownership

Oyster describes the accommodation as an interior shaped around the way each owner chooses to live, rather than presenting one rigid standard arrangement as the finished product. That approach is important at 36 metres because the project crosses from series-yacht expectations into the level of personalisation normally associated with custom sailing superyachts.

The official material emphasises expansive space, craftsmanship and owner individuality without claiming a single definitive decorative scheme. For prospective owners, the more meaningful question will therefore be how much layout and material freedom can be accommodated while retaining the engineering discipline of a repeatable Oyster platform.

The Monaco reveal completes the earlier preview

Superyacht Guide’s earlier Oyster flagship story reported the planned Monaco unveiling but did not invent a model name or technical specification before the yard confirmed them. The 24 September presentation now closes that information gap with the 36M designation, dimensions, tank capacities and sail plan published directly by Oyster.

The result is more than a larger addition to the catalogue. At 118 feet, the 36M gives Oyster a new flagship around which it can test whether its established bluewater ownership proposition translates convincingly into a segment where clients expect both serious sailing capability and the spatial freedom of a bespoke superyacht.
