Sunreef WETRA Brings Helm, Energy and Maintenance into One Yacht System

Sunreef Yachts has introduced WETRA, a connected management environment designed to bring the information generated by a yacht’s many technical and guest-facing systems into one place. The builder’s September announcement connects helm functions, energy management, onboard comfort and maintenance information rather than presenting another isolated screen or app.

The relevance to superyachts is direct. Owners and crews already balance machinery, hotel loads, navigation equipment and guest services, often through several separate interfaces. WETRA is intended to make that information available across helm displays, onboard controls and mobile devices while keeping the underlying equipment integrated.

One configurable picture at the helm

Sunreef describes an ultrawide, configurable interface that can present propulsion, navigation, tank levels, power systems, weather, alarms and cameras. Information can be prioritised for activities including cruising, docking and anchoring, giving the bridge a different operating picture as circumstances change.

The aim is not to remove the captain’s judgment or make individual safety systems unnecessary. The practical value will depend on how clearly critical alerts are displayed and on whether essential functions remain available if a connected component fails.

Energy management across the yacht

WETRA can combine consumption information with load management and generator-operation logic based on onboard demand. Sunreef also outlines energy forecasting that estimates battery autonomy and anticipates upcoming requirements, a useful consideration for yachts balancing propulsion, hotel services and time at anchor.

Actual efficiency gains will depend on the vessel’s power architecture, how the system is configured and its operational profile. The announcement does not establish a single percentage saving that applies across the entire superyacht fleet.

Maintenance data moves beyond alarms

The system is designed to evaluate technical trends using parameters such as temperature, pressure, voltage, current, equipment cycles and running hours. Instead of relying only on a threshold alarm, crews may be able to notice developing changes and prepare maintenance before a problem disrupts a passage.

With appropriate permissions and connectivity, selected information can also be shared with Sunreef service teams for remote diagnosis and preparation. Access controls, reliable records and the ability to operate when offshore connectivity is interrupted remain essential to any remotely assisted yacht operation.

Guest comfort and remote access

Lighting, climate and entertainment controls can also be accessed through touchscreens, tablets and smartphones, with selected voice functions. The platform can respond to occupancy, time of day and user settings while leaving the crew in control of onboard services.

The companion app allows authorised users to review selected systems remotely and prepare functions before boarding. As more superyachts rely on centralised digital control, WETRA illustrates how builders are approaching the operational experience as a joined-up system rather than a collection of independent components.
