Battery security joins the certification conversation

Corvus Energy has announced DNV Cyber Security Type Approval for its Dolphin NxtGen battery energy storage system. The approval also covers the Gen 4 battery management system pack controller.

The company dated its announcement 30 April 2026 and describes the certification as part of its security work for connected marine power systems. It is not approval of an individual yacht installation or a guarantee that cyber incidents cannot occur.

The equipment within scope

The Dolphin NxtGen product family combines onboard energy storage with controls that monitor and manage battery operation. Cybersecurity requirements matter because modern power equipment exchanges data with other vessel systems.

Corvus says the DNV approval covers the NxtGen family and the specified pack controller. The exact version, installation architecture and certificate scope should be verified before a new-build or refit project relies on the claim.

Security over the system lifecycle

The company says its engineering process addresses evolving cyber risks through the equipment’s operating life. This adds a software and network perspective to the familiar mechanical and electrical work of maintaining a vessel.

A certificate for a component cannot replace vessel-level segmentation, access management, backups and incident procedures. Managers should include the battery-control network in a wider onboard security review.

What this means for hybrid yachts

Battery systems can contribute to silent operation, peak-load handling and propulsion architecture on suitable yachts. Owners need to evaluate electrical and cyber approvals alongside space, fire safety, class and flag requirements.

Corvus’s official release and equipment-specific photograph establish the stated approval. Independent integration and certification remain the responsibility of the actual project and relevant authorities.
