Yamaha Marine is using Genoa to present its high-power V8 and V6 outboards, integrated control systems and on-water Torqeedo electric propulsion trials.

Yamaha Motor has opened its 2026 Genoa International Boat Show presence with a broad marine technology display covering high-power outboards, integrated vessel controls and electric propulsion. The stand includes the company’s V8 XTO and V6 engine ranges alongside Torqeedo systems, with visitors able to test electric outboards on the water during the show.

High-power outboards remain central to the display

Yamaha is showing its outboard range from portable units through to the Premium V6 350hp and V8 XTO platforms. The larger engines are particularly relevant to high-performance tenders, chase boats and multi-engine installations where power density, integration and reliability are central operational considerations.

For superyacht programmes, the significance extends beyond the horsepower figure. Tender and support-boat propulsion has to work within a wider maintenance environment, so parts availability, diagnostics, control integration and the ability to support engines across multiple cruising regions can influence equipment choices.

Integrated controls are becoming part of the propulsion package

The Genoa presentation also includes Yamaha’s integrated vessel-control technologies and Empowered by Yamaha packages. These systems bring propulsion, steering and onboard control functions together rather than treating the engines as isolated components installed after the rest of the vessel has been designed.

That trend matters as tenders and smaller support craft become more technically sophisticated. Captains and crews increasingly expect joystick manoeuvring, clear diagnostics and predictable interfaces, particularly when several crew members may operate the same boat during guest transfers or water-sports activity.

Torqeedo adds a practical electric demonstration

Yamaha is also presenting Torqeedo electric outboards ranging from 3hp to 25hp equivalents, including Travel and Cruise families with GPS, onboard computers and real-time displays for speed, power and remaining range. Genoa visitors can test selected electric systems directly on the water.

The opportunity to demonstrate electric propulsion under real operating conditions is more useful than a static display because range, throttle response, noise and handling can be judged immediately. For yacht owners, these characteristics are relevant to low-noise harbour use, lightweight tenders and specialist craft where zero-emission operation has practical value.

Marine electrification is developing alongside combustion technology

Yamaha’s stand makes clear that the transition is not being presented as an immediate replacement of every combustion engine. High-output V6 and V8 products remain prominent while electric systems are being developed for applications where battery capacity, range and operating profile already make sense.

That mixed approach reflects the reality of the superyacht sector, where different craft perform very different jobs. A long-range chase boat and a harbour tender may require entirely different propulsion solutions, so the near-term market is likely to combine efficient combustion, hybrid systems and fully electric equipment rather than converge on one technology.
